But...the D90 has interchangeable lenses which makes it slightly superior. Isn't that one of the biggest reason why we would use it? Once they update the firmware, I'm sure the D90 will kick ass.

I've been reading this thread since its started. I just wanted to thank everyone that has taken the time to upload and test the D90.

IF they update the firmware..Also, the compression is a big issue.
I'd rather wait for the firmware update before buying..The LX3 is 1/3 rd the cost anyway..

For the Final Cut users, what's the best sequence setting? I tried setting the compressor to motion jpeg A and B but I get a red render bar for both. I had the most luck with AIC and ProRes. Got an orange render bar for those. Other tidbits: I'm running fcp 2.0 on a G4 powerbook with 1 gig of ram.

There's a lot of talk about image quality, I'd love to hear more about workflow. Can't wait to hear what problems people run into when attempting to carry out a real project from beginning to end. Big thanks to people who bought the D90 and uploaded footage.
 
I don't why people who are strongly anti-D90 are hanging out in this thread. If you don't like a particular camera, then choose another camera and shoot with that...

I'm not trying to be defensive of my recent purchase, it's just very counterproductive to what we are trying to figure out when people list negatives of a camera ad nauseam.

edit - I guess a thread is destined to get somewhat redundant after 213 pages. Maybe I'm just a little grumpy.
 
Definitely grumpy Drew.. No one is against the D90 - this is just being objective..Anyway, read my last post, I gave up because of the 2.5x zoom..

I think it works like this - not dissimilar to the process of scientific enquiry - an idea, a concept or a hypothesis is set afloat on the high waters of critique, people are invited to sink the concept, throw stones at it, really take it through it's paces.

If it sinks, we then know what needs to be resolved, if it floats then great !

So far the D90 seems to be taking on a lot of water and even though Kholi and the gang are doing a sterling job at patching the holes and keeping hope afloat I am sure what this enterprise needs is not applause from the shoreline but more stone throwing.

so the LX3 is a full manual 720p24 16mm sensor camera with a leica lens and full HD component out....???

from what i can gather from the vimeo videos and the files size, it has an aprox 2.9mb/sec bit rate. what's the D90's aprox bit rate?


EDIT2: found some propper files... seems to be aprox 2.9mb/sec
