The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

luckily i live in small town and nobody even knows this camera exists. I'm going straight to Ritz or Circuit City. And I don't think this comes out on Sunday the 7th. Pretty odd.

I dropped it into photoshop CS3 and premiere CS3 and it runs fine. I have 3ghz core duo and 2gigs of ram. Dunno what your setup is. I used their preset.
Mine is a 1.8ghz core2duo with 2gb of ram. Not the best setup but since HDV runs fine on it I expected these files to run fine as well. What preset did you use in Premiere?

I'm at work right now, but I'm pretty sure it was the HDV preset when you first open it? I wish I were at home to tell you, but I'm pretty sure it was that. What's it doing exactly? When you scrub is it sluggish? Render time to preview?

Circuit City says September 7th... but now BH is saying October? How is it possible that they wouldn't know by now? Anyone else see anything more informative?

I tried the 720p 24p HDV preset and there was sadly no difference. It's pretty sluggish when I scrub through it and when I preview it. However, scrubbing through it works a whole lot better when I use the desktop setting instead of HDV. I'd say it scrubs perfectly, but still the preview is very sluggish. It doesn't render for preview, and I don't think it should have to. Grrr... Nonetheless, thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

If you are taking lots of movies that kind of nothing... right?

Does each frame of a movie = 1 cycle?

LOL that can't be right, because 70min of 24fps= around 100,000 frames. lol

The cycles have to do with how many times the mechanical shutter flips open and closed. As far as shooting video, this won't be happening at all.

I thought the DPreview footage looked pretty good.
Anyone think the penguin shot was a homage to the end shot of the ostrich in Luis Bunuel's 'The Phantom of Liberty'?
Just kidding.
But I've seen nothing but good about the D90 so far. Certainly meets my modest needs.

Flash cards for video, flash cards for audio. No 35mm adapter. Light weight. Portable. Firmware upgrades. Car mounts!!! Smaller Tripods. Modest needs? This is what I need.

This looks like good news in the menus: Could this mean that when you press the AE-L button it stays locked?

Menu:
Assign AE-L/AF-L button • AE/AF lock ¹
• AE lock only
• AF lock only
• AE lock (hold)
• AF-ON
• FV Lock

That's it. I remember way back on the DP forums people asking for the option to change Exposure lock on the fly. Traditionally you had to push it and it was locked. They gave the option to toggle the exposure on the fly for rapid adjustments it appears. So it indeed looks like you just change the menu option. I notice the ASA "lo" mode. That must be some clean silky looking imagery. Most of the footage I believe is default 200asa people have sho twith. I guess low is sub 100asa.

Nice camera car mount you posted too...

Someone said: The PQ (picture quality) doesn't come close to the current crop of HDV/HD Cameras.

To each their own. From the vimeo clips I see I can't say that the HVX200A's image clarity is like that by any means. At least not with an adapter on it. Which, comparing apples to apples, you would strap an adapter onto one of these cameras and compare it with lenses on it.

The whole point is that the D90 shoots 720/24p and allows intechangable lenses.

I can't see anywhere, even in the "bad" clips, that the image quality from the current crop of cameras exceeds the D90's image.

I'll reserve FINAL judgement for this Sunday. Bet my ass is in Circuit City.

If you want Cinema Quality I would suggest going Zeiss ZF. Sharpest stuff on the planet? Maybe.
