The zoom h-4 is cheaper and has 2 balanced inputs (both xlr and 1/4") The Edirol is nice but I think more for recording business conferences than field sound.

Hunter:

I am intrigued by the H-4. It is a four track but it looks like it only has two physical mic inputs? Can you record four channels at once?

Dan

Nope--4 track mode is either 2 tracks at a time, stereo, recorded twice, or 1 track at a time, mono, recorded 4 times. It also has some bizzare timecode issues. Other than that, it's a great little device that's really handy!

Am I fashionably late?

Cash set aside.

Who else is frankensteining a shoulder-mount rig with weights etc?

What kind of monitoring solutions?

Red Rock Follow Focus + D90 love?

Oooh, and what about Slow but awesome Zooms? Stoked.

Hunter, you rock.

Hate to double post but I just realized how cheap photography underwater housings are going to be compared to shooting with prosumer video camera underwater housings.

I'm not saying HVX is replaceable by D-90 but rather how experimenting with shooting underwater will be easier and more affordable with the nikon.

For you Nikon guys, will my old Nikon N90 lenses fit the D80 and thus likely the D90? Maybe through an adapter? Can you use a non-AF lense that perhaps disables the auto exposure? Thanks.

No, you rock Kholi! Thanks for showing up late.

There is going to need to be a new d90 forum for all of the ghetto rigs...

Maybe d90user.com?

confession: I bought the domains d90user.net and d90user.com the second I heard about the d90's release!

Thats a great thought! This thing is only $300, might open up a new world of photography too.

yes almost if not all nikon lenses from back in the day are compatible with digital. Unlike Canon, there is really only one Nikon mount.

Nikon has made the 'f-mount' for their lenses since like 1950 something. Ever since all lenses have been compatible with all bodies with two exceptions:

1) Nikon Rangefinder lenses, don't work with f-mount non-rangefinder bodies.

2) Non AI-d lenses may not fit on some camera bodies. They do physically fit, but what ever exposure they are set at when you attack them is where it stays. Not recommended because it's not good for the camera. Nothing to really worry about because they've been making all lenses AI'd since seventies or eighties.

Also just be sure to remember to adjust what your lens reads... meaning my 35mm film lenses when put on a non full frame body will not be the exact mm length which it's supposed to be. This is simply because of the image plain being different sizes.

I think the D-90 is not a full frame image size, meaning my 35mm film lenses that are 50 will actually be 40mm or something (i dont know the exact translation)

P.S: Really smart .COM buy. lol
