HMC150 questions answered...

What have D90 to do with HMC150

Only that someone was considering the D90 over the HMC-150.

Not to deter the thread further, but the D90 is nowhere near the broadcast camera the HMC150 is. Neat that it can "kinda" shoot HD video but I sure wouldn't show up on a production shoot with a DSLR.

I selected all ten clips Barry posted at once and converted them in about two minutes to Canopus HQ format using a Quad-core 9450.

HQ files are large, but they look great and are easy to edit with.

the canopus hq format is limited to 1440x1080... what are the ramifications of this avchd 1920x1080 getting changed to 1440x1080?

B&H has it at just shy of $3,500

Posted this earlier in the thread.. For all you DVX user guys who want an HMC, call Julian at Audio Video Supply in San Deigo CA.. 858 565-1101 Ext. 434 He can sell them to DVXusers for a great price. Sorry I can't say on the forum, but I will say I already put my credit card info down with him. I feel like it's a great deal. Tell him Brian from DVXuser sent ya..

I think I asked about this a few dozen (!) pages ago in this thread and Barry confirmed that the Canopus HQ format is in fact full 1920x1080. I was confused too because the white papers on the Grass Valley website mention 1440x1080....

TO VoltaicHD Users:

I tried converting the 720/30p footage and ended up with 720/60p footage. OK, the 30p was placed into a 60p file and played at double speed. As for the second half of the converted file, all I got was white space.

I was wondering if any other VoltaicHD users saw the same thing?

All other modes seemed to convert OK.

No it isn't. The Canopus HQ codec has two modes, either 1440x1080 or 1920x1080. There are no ramifications.

I talked to Julian at Audio Video Supply and he said his info from Panasonic is that the HMC150 would finish production mid-Sept, but then go through QC, and then through distribution. He was estimating end of Sept to beginning of Oct for shipments to end users, which is too late for me. I have a 4 day shoot, over two weekends, starting the last week of Sept or the first week of Oct. Has anyone heard that it might come earlier than that?

I believe Toast 9 has full support for AVCHD playing mts fles and encoding.

Im still on 8 but 9 seems like a worthy upgrade for this feature alone.

David does it work well?

It's 4:2:0 color so it won't key as good as DVCPRO-HD, but in progressive mode it should do as well or better than any HDV camera.

(and yes, I had to send it back, so no more tests...)
