having an xha1 and letus ex, i am now in need of a field monitor as the lcd screen on the a1 just wont cut it

i searched the site but didnt find any threads specifically on point

does anyone currently use or recommend a particular field monitor for this setup?

ideally i'd like to have it show in hd what im shooting for focus purposes and not be a real hardship to power up in the field

advice is appreciated

check the articles section. I just reviewed the panasonic bt-LH900a. 8.4" field monitor.

thanks, nice review

that monitor looks great but is way out of my budget

i am definitely looking at something a few notches down

How about recommendations for just a good screen that has high enough res to let me be sure the LEX is in focus?

A good eye and you can use the A1's LCD but for critical work you never want to do that.

Marshall 7in Monitor is what I bought, works like a charm.

cool good to hear

from what i can see marshall has 7" models that vary in price from 490 to 2000

is one of the lower end ones sufficient in your opinion?

so anyway i am really trying to find something pretty simple that i can put on my xha1 with the letus extreme to know stuff is in focus

it doesnt need to be too fancy but i really dont even know where to start or what the ballpark is, or if these things power themselves or if i have to power them independently and so on

i see pictures of setups of people with their cameras and adapters, and a little screen they've added for these purposes but never know the make or model or anything

would really love a bit of guidance, i'm kind of stuck at square zero

I recently posted a similar question, I was looking for a cheap monitor for my xh-a1, I got some nice feedback from kind users that had experience with cheaper monitors (150bucks new kind of monitors) and they were crappy indeed, but they worked (litteraly). I can't say anything about the quality myself but well, there you go, that's all I know :) Regarding the powersupply, It probably depends on which type of monitor you buy, but most likely you will have to get something seperately.

But if you have the money, get an Ikan 8" or an Marshall 7".

Nebtek sells a Marshall 7" with a battery mount attached to it. The different battery mounts are Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC.

okay good stuff

the most reasonable deals im finding so far are ikan 8" monitors for around 400-450

not the native HD version though i think

once these start getting over 8-900, i have to stop thinking about it

also im looking closley at the ikan 8000 hd monitors

do they ONLY work with power from the sony L series rechargeable batteries?

would i not be able to use either typical over the counter batteries or spare canon a1 batteries?

the ikan 8000 HD has a built in mount for the sony L series battery AND a 12v DC jack, their other monitors have only the standard 12v DC coaxial jack. If you didn't want to use the sony type battery you could always purchase or cobble together one of the many different battery solutions mentioned on the forums

thanks, been looking for these solutions but no luck so far

if anyone has a link, much appreciated

Ikan has several external battery solutions on their web site as accessories:
http://www.ikancorp.com/pages/accessories/index.htm

markertek and B@H has mounting plates with various battery mounts that are designed for using with many brands LCD monitors

some people are using the tekkeon battery systems for monitors all thiough I haven't tried them my self ...

I think I´ll post some pictures of my XHA1 and mini TV-HANNSPREE (about 200$). The quality of the disply is very good for the price. And it has a very nice "sharpness" feature which allow me to focus really easy. Its also cool becuase on XHA1 you cant use peaking and zebra at the same time. Extra nice: you can watch TV while shooting break ;-)
