Hey guys I'm back with a new short film I made last year for the Arab American Comedy Show. This has been getting great feedback both from the Arab community and others alike. I'd really like to hear your comments too.

Just so you know the house we used we did nothing to it what so ever! I'm an Arab American living in Dearborn MI and I can tell you that their are Arabs that live in homes like this that it was just too funny not make a video like this.

Enjoy

Sterotyping? Interesting What type of houses do people "think" Arab-Americans live in?

Thanks for comments!

But are you accusing me of Stereotyping? It's just hard to figure out what you're true meaning is. I may be reading it wrong.

I get a lot of questions from people about the home we shot it in. Most people are under the impression that we produced the house. Meaning we did up the basement, and filled the garage up with the dinner table, chandelier and fridge. So what I was saying is that we did nothing to that house what so ever except add a mustang in the driveway, fill it up with people and fill the fridge up with 'government cheese' which we actually bought from a store. It wasent the real welfare cheese.

The house I grew up in was nothing like this. But there are homes of Arabs in Dearborn that live in this fashion and they flaunt it that its sooooo funny. Many of us in the community make fun of them. Cant help it, its just too funny.

I don't look at it as Stereotyping, though I can see this becoming a Stereotype if it catches on.

When I was in Abu Dhabi there was a running joke, from the UAE folk I interacted with, was about the now wealthy citizens of the UAE buying and building 'palaces'... yet pitching their tent in the front court yard area...

Of course none of the individuals I had contact with pitched tents... they were more inclined to show off their Porsche...

I don't mean YOU were sterotyping. I'm saying I didn't know that Arab-Americans were ever the Victim of Sterotyping, at least in reguard to housing. So I was thinking more along the lines of -- when you said some people live like this, I was thinking - isn't that how the average american lives? What's so different when it comes to other cultures moving here and living like that. So when you brought it up - I'm thinking does the average person think Arab-Americans live in cardboard boxes or mansions? I figured everybody just lives. :)

Ahh...see, I knew I wasn't reading it right.

Really? I don't know of too many people, that are not immigrants, that live mostly in their basements or garages...lol. I find that many immigrants like polish and Filipinos will have a living room that is just for show only though just like some Arabs.

Either way thanks for watching I appreciate the comments.

LOL. I wonder what the joke pertains to. It must have some historical reference. I never been to Abu Dhabi but I have family there for sometime now.

I'm pretty sure that the 'joke' is perhaps referring to the same sort of idea as if one took a backwoods Ozarks family that came into wealth via an oil find, and put them into a posh Beverly Hills Mansion...

HAHAH!! like the Beverly Hillbillies!

Not being a member of the culture, I couldn't do that... but perhaps that is a 'comedy' theme that someone inside the culture could do...

The only Arabic word that has stuck in my mind is Bukra (or there abouts...) which was the response to 'when is our equipment going to be here for the demonstration'... Me, being use to mexican cultural methods, understood the meaning... my more uptight companions found it rather frustrating...

you should see my house... i live in the most bubble-like city in the world(oakville), lots of people i know have rooms that are "for show" antiques, expensive furniture etc... not just immigrants!

nonetheless, that was hilarious... EDANNOW!

Doesn't it suck that we here in the states are so hindered by race? You said that you couldn't do that because you are not in the culture. That really bothers me. At the same time it give me more opportunity to do that stuff because no one else will.

The race card in this country sucks man.
