Ive been shooting all my projects in 720PN and exporting them as a microsoft dv avi from adobe premiere pro cs3 and then converting them to DVD using encore cs3. my question is:

is this the best way to achieve the highest possible quality or am i missing
something?

I change nothing when i export other than the aspect ratio from default to the regular widescreen setting. I think the default is anamorphic HD or something like that and i change it to the widescreen 16:9 setting. Should I not do that? should I leave the aspect setting alone?

also......i

I don't know Premiere that well, but can you go directly from your timeline to DVD-compliant Mpeg-2? That would save you an unnecessary step of compression when you go to DV first.

yes he can, export to adobe encore, and it will automatically burn your timeline to dvd...

thanks i thought about trying that but thought maybe all it did was start a new encore project using the timeline as an asset. is this the best quality though?

Yes, encoding directly to mpeg2 will give you the best quality wheras encoding to DV AVI will throw in an unneccesary round of compression that you don't need.

In Premiere, you can either burn a DVD directly from the timeline (which will automatically launch Encore in the process, you need to follow the prompts to complete through to where it will burn the final DVD) or you can export the timeline or work area using Adobe Media Encoder and render the sequence out to a high quality DVD mpeg2 file, along with a seperate audio file, using whatever specific customizations you want or choosing a high quality DVD preset.

I would recommend NOT letting Premiere import to Encore. Instead import to media encoder in Premiere. Close Premiere. Open Encore and create timeline and burn.

I can say w/o any hesitation that Encore CS3 sucks and is full of bugs. Just check out the Adobe forums concerning this. Some very unhappy folks. Its got some work to be done on it yet.

Good Luck.

I hate to put down any app, but I have to agree at least in my experience on a Macintosh trying to create blu-ray™ discs from a HVX200

A frustrating experience with hangs, counterintuitive workflow, and just plain unsatisfactory h.264 encodes with Main Concept.

CS3 won't even indicate which templates are motion menus in SD or HD.

Kinda of strange that Adobe has not addressed workflow better

thanks everyone. i appreciate the responses. my footage looks incredible editing in the timeline....just doesnt even look as good as my old dvx stuff when i burn it to dvd, but then again i was exporting to microsoft dv avi per suggestion on a different board because encore itself ive experienced first hand messes up 720p footage.
