What's your day job?

Hey Ken - glad to meet another uber-nerd.

Cool! I've been meaning to become more familiar with Solaris again, but haven't touched it in years. I do have an OpenSolaris disc sitting in front of me waiting to be used, though. :) How are you liking 10?
From a long time UNIX System Administrator's point of view, I'll preface this a bit. I've used, built and been the architect of many large scale networks, from the early variants of BSD/OS and Linux to the newer Mac OSX versions and Solaris 10. Working with Petabytes of storage (NAS/SAN/LUN for iSCSCI) and more than your average amount of users - many non-English speaking - Solaris 10 beats every one of them for set-it-up and walk-away operations. You have to write a few scripts to make things function well and to the requirements of the purpose for the network - but once in place, the whole network is a real machine. (sheepish grin...) guess that means I like it.

The AlphaServer still works! I actually haven't ran it in about a year, because yeah... the thing is a beast. It's got the tape drive and seven 4.0GB drives in pull out drawers on the right-side. And yes, it's HEAVY.
(grins) You know, I used to have an HP-9000 sitting in my garage for awhile - big thing (with 9-track tape and these huge 2foot by 2foot disk drive enclosures (but small capacity in today's environment) - the disk drives themselves must have weighed in at 150 pounds each - on rails. Worked. It could heat up my whole house, and was kinda funny when it was powered up, I'd be watching the power meter on the side of the house spin so fast I thought the needle would break off. Didn't use it much after that and sold it to a chemical company needing to retrieve data after their system went EOL, and died.

I had to carry it up to my 2nd floor apartment and it was by far the most difficult thing I've ever had to carry. Harder than my 91 lb TV, so I'm guessing it's 100+ lbs. The size didn't make it any easier. I bought it for $50-100? I think some medical office was using it forever and finally decided to upgrade. I wanted to learn OpenVMS and this was the only thing I could find in my area that would run it cheaply. :)
Glad they're smaller now!

This was when I was studying for my security certification and wanted as much OS exposure as possible, so on a given day I was running: OpenVMS, HP-UX, Irix, Solaris, Linux, OpenBSD, Windows and Mac OS X. Ahh... the glory days. :D
Uhggg - computer security.... yeah - been there & done that. Was a time when it was cutting edge, now though - I just want to shoot video.

Media Producer for a national non-profit during the day. Trying to get my feature film out on DVD, finish up a documentary I started last year, and make my next short film on nights and weekends.

I do video, photography and graphic design for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Learning and Educations department. We create learning materials, courses, etc. for employees of the firm.

Who knew you could do video production in a cubicle.

I am 24/7 for this... teaching myself how to do everything (with your help).
I might have to get a day job soon though...
:(

Manager at a fast food place.
I'm glad to see everyone went to school and makes 100 times more than I.
lol makes me depressed.

I shoot full time and considering I am relatively new to it Im pretty happy about that. Ive been on hiatus for a few months moving back to Aus. Plan is now to get my own production company up and running here on the Gold Coast. Im pretty much doing anything right now to build contacts, which is starting to move me forward. In addition, as I have for the last few years I intend to continue to work more and more on narrative and hopefully one day thats where I can be all the time.

I design custom homes in Arizona. Times are a little slow right now, but when I'm working it's pretty fun and challenging. It's funny how home development mimics the production process of movies to some degree...so I'm constantly reminded of why it takes me so many years to do a feature film. :)

I do Sales Engineering and Programming for Audio Video Control Systems (Crestron and AMX) for large commercial boardrooms/training rooms/auditoriums/etc (used to do Residential but glad I'm not doing it anymore)

at least you're making money. i'm about to have to move the family into a van down by the river. maybe i can think of some sort of pyramid scheme to scam people into giving me money.

writer for television (animation, drama, comedy)...Avid editor...and finally being paid to direct (yes, it pretty much amounts to rent money, but at least it's a step in the direction i wanna be going). been doing the freelance/contract thing in film for a few years now, and it's very up and down. gettin' a day job is always a real possibility!
