What's your day job?

What do you do for a living?

I'll go first. I'm a software engineer in the aviation industry. I program weather/gps programs for pilots.

Wow, I'm a software engineer too. Just started a new job actually. Tax and accounting software. Yes, it is as exciting as it sounds.

I'm an Editor for the TV Guide network. All the little shows you see above the scroll window on your cable guide station... that's me. Outside of that I am a EDM DJ, and on the side I occasionally o side shorts/music videos/ commercials for people.

Fascinating thread Shawn! I have often wondered this myself but never got around to asking. Hearing what others do as their day job make me even more impressed at the quality of work you guys are churning out in your "spare time"!

I work doing freelance production...commercials, promo videos, etc. I have not been terribly busy but enough to pay the bills. So I can't complain and I really have no excuse for not doing a short film about every month! :)

I too am a software engineer. Have worked professionally in that role for 15+ years.

Currently I do corporate data warehousing. That means I move data around and create reports for the big wigs to gawk at and then use to explain why I'm not getting a raise this year.

Day "job" is going to high school.

I make money by shooting events (documentary, sports, wedding, etc.). I fortunately don't have any actual bills other than gas, so all of my money goes straight to my gear.

In my current life I own a software development company that caters to the educational publishing industry (college level) ...and hire software engineers...like all you guys! (this way I can produce music CD's, try to make movies & golf)

Previous lives include audio engineer/studio owner, manufacturers rep (Alesis, Electro-Voice, RANE, SWR, Zildjian), bicycle mechanic, touring musician, cook...and some other stuff that I really don't care to remember.

No job starting June 1. Left my job in home theater design and sales to get my production company in full swing and focus on making movies.

I am a full time Commercial editor for the local NBC affiliate, KSEE24. I am also a Junior High Youth Pastor. Of course, I am also a film maker!

I am still a Student going to University. Just need to write a few more exams and write my thesis and will hopefully be an electrical engineer by the end of the year.

Besides that I try to earn some money as a fashion model. And I sometimes do telephone installations and fix computer problems for my parents friends.

I'm a Software Quality Assurance Analyst/Engineer with a strong focus on security. Basically, I get paid to break all the software you engineers build. But hey, if you're lucky, I'll even tell you how to break it consistently. :D

And yes, I wear a tinfoil hat.

Freelance graphic designer and lately a DP for some small TV stations. During free hours a student :) + I'm grabing everything I've never done to try if it's any fun - starting from 3d game modeling and ending with being a nursery school babysitter :))

And for 3 years now I also teach like some extra classes ("on the movie set", "special fx" etc.) in primary school - And I'm "mr. Maciek" there :))

I own my own Production Company doing as much dramatic work as we can, but also doing corporate video, commercials, events, etc. (Actually I hate doing events and pass on as much of that work as I can.)

I'm a software developer specializing in large database development - data warehouses, data darts, analytical systems, etc. I use lots of fancy titles like "Data Warehouse Architect" for marketing, but the titles don't really explain what I do - crunch and move around large datasets. It's challenging and interesting work, but hardly the stuff of scintillating party conversations.

What do I WANT to do? Hint... Why am I posting in this forum?

Dan.
