HVX200a in Canada?

CANADIAN MUST READ THIS

Hi Lando,
I live in Vancouver, recently bought my HVX from Spec-Comm. Great place to buy from. There is NO duty on video cameras.... just the tax (pst, gst, which you would have to pay anyway). Plus buying from Spec-Comm you get the 16 GB P2card , Barry's book, and awesome service. Hard to beat!

This is not entirely true. Let's Clarify a few things here.

1: Camcorders are duty free AS LONG AS THEY ARE MADE WITHIN US / CDN GROUND.
2: Spec-Comm ships Japan made HVXs.
3: Duty for such camera is about 10% or so (not too sure, im basing this on the bill i received)

If you live in Canada and plan on buying an HVX (or any other camcorders), BE CAREFUL. Contact the website and ask where the Factory is before buying from the United States.

As for my personnal experience, i was in the market for an HVX200a and followed Lando's post. I bought from Spec-Comm thinkin the camera was made in the United States so i wouldn have to pay duty. I didn asked where the factory was and the result :

HVX200A : 5299$
DUTY : 728$
TAXES : 172$
SHIPPING : 168$

Dont get me wrong about Spec-comm, I received an awesome service through the process but at no point at all they warned me that the cam was not made within US ground.
