Hyperactive Studios (What Matt and Mark are up to)

Thanks for the updates, Mark.

What kind of budget are you guys going to shoot with for these two features?

Thanks... I am a little tired of it all, but we seem to be making some progress, we will see how the next two weeks progress.

We are keeping budgets under wraps for now, I may be able to share more later, this is all new territory for me so I don't want to put my foot in it.

UPDATE # 14

Well amidst all of the Timfest stuff and the day jobs, we are still looking for funding for any or all of our slate of projects. As some of you may know, Stricken is ready to film, the others are in various levels of readiness.

Long story short, lots of trauma with the couple of guys that were working together and that we were working with. Basically, we are not working with either of them anymore. However, in the process we made some contacts and that never hurts.

One of the biggest things that we were missing in the list of requirments for funding, is a producer with a track record. One of our actors introduced us to a couple of people and one of them just signed on in a production role which should really help us in the financing category and all the way around. She has a great credit sheet and should really improve our chances for acceptable financing in a timely manner! Once it is official and we have it in writing, I will make an official announcement.

Anyhoo... small announcement, but once again... moving forward. I like moving forward! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Man, you guys are like green-screen gurus! Everything looks great! Clips looks really major. Good luck with everything.

Hey thanks!!

We just put our Action teaser for Hyperactive Studios on Youtube.
Could all of you watch it, rate it and comment if you can? That would rock.
We would like to get some exposure to the video and your traffic, ratings and comments help do that! Enjoy the teaser and I will keep you updated!
If you want to pass the link on, do so as it helps us.

Hey Matt,

I like the new edit. My favorite is the swirly black thingamajig that is going up the stairs. What film is that from?

Also, are AfterShock Studios, Visual Cranium, Hyperactive Studios and Farrland Films different groups of you guys?

thanks Mark... that clip is from one of my films called "Flight of the Golden Umbrella". I didn't quite get the look I was going for was going for, but for the time that we had and the amount of work, it worked (for now:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)).

Yeah... the whole name thing is confusing. Visual Cranium LLC is my company and Aftershock is Matt's the two merging together is supposed to suggest that the two are now becoming Hyperactive Studios. The main reason we did that is that we both have started different things and we want to maintain that momentum until we can role it all into Hyperactive and until we get HS offically up and built. Farrland is no longer involved, but we don't have time to re-edit that and remove it. We really need to put up a new updated trailer (this one is old) but we have a lot going on right now. Jen has a couple of big meetings in LA on Monday and we needed to get something up and going for that. Long story short, I need to update the content!:undecided soon!

DISCLAIMER!!!

Also for you VFX guys out there... this was only meant to be a sampling of what we could do. From first shot to completion, we did it in 3 weeks. There were three of us doing it... I being the only experienced CG person and Matt and Troy being very quick learners.

What we submitted to investors is a DVD with a 6 minute trailer showing a teaser for each of the 10 films, the 2 minute teaser that we just put on youtube and all sorts of BTS, Story breakdowns and interview content. This is what we put together in 3 weeks. All things considered, it came off really well.

but back to the disclaimer... we cranked this out, so be gentle... it is rough!

Your 'cranked out' is my 'impossible to do'. To me it is amazingly wonderful. :2vrolijk_08:

Well thanks Gary! However, the only reason I think that it is 'impossible to do' to you, is because no one has ever showed you how... Like everything YOU do, I am certain, given the right tools and direction, you would pick it up extraordinarily fast!

UPDATE #15
Well Jens meetings went really well yesterday! She is VERY DEDICATED and just keeps on pushing through. I am real optimistic about the latest developments.

We are still looking at funding a slate, however, we are going to have to modify some of our budgets and probably remove some of the larger projects and replace them with smaller more modest films. This is not a problem because we have projects coming out of our ears, but the reason that we keep pushing this slate is because we are looking to develop a long-term deal that will give us a bread and butter income. The slate that we are currently pushing is all low-budget stuff, but it would give us a commitment for 5 years and X number of projects/dollars each year. That is exciting to us. Again stability is a good thing.

There are a lot of terms that we will have to adhere to, nothing out of the ordinary. We have a bit of a hurdle to get over coming out of the gate, but we will see... it may not be so difficult.

I know that I am "Capitan Vague" but right now we need to keep the details under wraps. Lets just say that we are closer to real than we have been up to this point.

Stay tuned for more soon.

There is a lot happening. Mostly though, we are involved in a film project that moves into Pre-Production in January and shooting is scheduled for MAY 2009. Jennifer is directing, Matt is editing and I (Mark) am doing a bunch of artsy stuff (pre, pro and post). A lot of our team members from projects past will be invovled in some capacity or another. The film is called Find Hope Now and it is based on a true story about gang-members and a man who started a organization called Hope Now for Youth, who's sole purpose is to help gang members get out of gangs and get employment and eventually in many cases, a college education and a real career. So far they have helped close to 1600 gang kids get off the streets and turn their lives around.

The Story is based on a book by Reverand Roger Menasian, called GANGS TO JOBS. The producer and screenwriter. Skin Mead is the driving force behind this wonderful story. There is a lot more to report, but I will save it for now and share more soon.

We are producing the film around the Indie - Ultra Low Budget format... I can share more later if anyone is interested. Well it is Christmas and the wife is giving me the glare, so I will go for now.

Hope all is well and I hope everyone is having a great Christmas.

FREAKIN' A!!! Dude!!! WTH!!! The photos were downloading slow and the next thing I know that scary screaming broad was looking at me. LOL. BTW how did you do this, I'm going to need this effect for the Divinity film I'm working on. There's a ghost/demon chick in there too. I love what you're doing with the greenscreen too by the way.

Mark,

I just watched the trailer on Vimeo, and I think it's good that you guys are moving away from the VFX thing. I think you have a better shot at getting funding that way. Doing a good job with VFX shots eats up a lot of time, and if you don't have it, the shots will reflect it.
I would also suggest not going for professional funding with disclaimers like "this was shot for no money", and "made in a month", or some such. It's better to show well lit, well composed shots of live action than bad CG just for the sake of CG. The green screen comps worked well in some scenes, but they need to be flawless, or cut from the trailer. If you are going to compete with professional productions, and you are serious, your work has to match theirs in production value and quality. The more confident and professional you appear the more likely someone will be to risk their funds on your abilities to return their investment and make them some money.

Perhaps you should read the Corrado II and Lonely Place for Dying threads and check out the quality of their products. Those guys are pretty highly evolved in their strategy, and there is a lot of good information there.

I think that you guys have talent and drive, if you can get the presentation up to par and add a few known faces to your trailers, you can capitalize on the energy that is in your current productions. The biggest thing you need is a good story, and your latest production sounds like you are doing that. Get some recognizable indie actors to sign, even if it's only for a few days of shooting and you have a better chance of success.

Good luck,

Chris
