Vfx Challenge 2 - Urban Destruction

Oh yeah, I know deadlines are deadlines.

Honestly, I wouldn't have picked this project up with a two week turnaround. I have several other projects I am putting all my time and effort into, and two weeks is pretty short to figure out what you want to do and how to do it.

Whatever happens happens.

I wasn't being critical, so please don't take it that way. I would like to simulate to a degree working under pressure and with deadlines, and I will tell you why:

Two weeks for one (or even two) people to create an animation of the caliber we all want to hit would be hard to do if you could devote even as much as four hours a day to it. Create a still frame, and I can see it. But also remember, this is just as much, no scratch that, this is MORE about how you get your results than anything. So long as YOU know what you wanted to do, you can always extrapolate further from what you didn't get finished and explain what you had planned to do, and how.

Even an unfinished piece with an idea and explination of where you wanted it to go and how is better than nothing. Sure, it may be a little frustrating, but there's always something to be learned, even from a project you were only able to get 75% of the way finished. Whatever I submit if I work by myself is not going to be that great. But I can easily describe and then find examples online to show where I was going with it. And that way, even with an unfinished piece, people get to learn about your technique and workflow.

And it may even help your workflow, since you are approaching it undera time crunch. Since we all probably will be, undoubtedly some of us will discover new ways to speed up our work that we can then share.

Guys... I am at NAB in Vegas. I think we should extend the deadline one week. Let me talk to Barry today and I'll make an official announcement if he agrees....

I forgot about NAB. That settles that. Looks like we are extending one week.

Mark, thanks for bringing up NAB. Massive, Maya, NAB . . .

Excuse me for a while, I feel th need to sit in a corner and weep. :thumbsuo:

Oh, I understand you weren't being critical. I was just hoping to see an increase in time. :)

I actually sat down with this thing and already ran into a little issue modeling. Haha. Oh well - that's why weekends exist.

Ok, peeples. We are OFFICIALLY extending the deadline one week. I'll fix the Rules Page a.s.a.p.

We'll be doing challenges with varying lengths of time and complexity in the future. This one clearly deserves an extra week under the circumstances.

We are in the process of schmoozing sponsors for some big prizes to be used in future fests as well. It will take us some time to hit our stride and to get sponsors on board, so your patience and participation are both greatly appreciated.

Hope you guys are plugging away at this. There's still time for even you late starters. Submissions are due Sunday at midnight.

I thought it was pretty funny as I was the one that opted for more time - and put the project on a total backburner...oh well, I have some time to mess around with it. Though I don't have time for my original concept.

Don't sweat it. My whole life's been on a backburner.
Just kidding, it was a good line.

The official deadline dates have not been updated to reflect the new deadline.
Maybe that's thrown some people off.

I'm sensing a general lack of interest in this from the VFX guys who have not jumped in yet but I know they're out there.

Yeah, I was going to put in some real time into this, but major projects come into play before a freelance event. I'll see what I can throw together. It won't be an hour job again though...

Cool dudes. The upload link will be active later tonight. Any and all entries are welcome and totally appreciated. Mattykins, we value extremely the fact that you threw in your "hour job" last time and we'll be stoked for whatever you get time to do this time. This is all for fun and we're all aware that these kind of projects have to be done in the time available (which can be miniscule!)

Damn, real life. So busy the last days.

I just put something together. So at least I can hold my word that I will submit an entry. Will upload soon :)

So what else is going on here? Feels like there are not so many entries. How is the status Mark?
