Hvx200a

I just got a HVX200 mine was coded "HVX200PJu" (I don't think a 200a will be announced.) They'll just fix bugs and add revisions to this one.

uh, you do know the 200a was released last week right? mine gets to me on monday. barry did a write up on everything new to the 200a.

I hope they release at least a software update that includes the updates on that list that was posted.

IMO. That would be wayyyyy better than buying a 200a.

Honestly...there isnt much notable improvement in the camera other than the CCD sensitivity. I dont think it would be worth the trouble of trading in your 200 and waiting for a 200a. If you use proper lighting, then this update shouldn't be of much use.

If they really wanted to take advantage of the letter update..then put all those requests that were on the list. At least the software portion of it because changing the physical aspects of the camera would just just make it a new camera.

Just my .02

There's *no* improvements other than the CCD updates. But 1/2 stop of sensitivity, much lower noise, and less smear are probably the most significant updates you could ask for in a no-change update.

Me neither. I can't see why anyone would upgrade from a 200 to a 200A; I could certainly see why someone might want to upgrade from a 200 to a 170 though.

I'd have to agree with you on the 200 to 170 upgrade...cuz it seems that Panasonic put some of the requests from that list that was put together and put them in the 170.

...I wish some of those could be put on the HVX. I love my HVX and wouldn't trade it in unless I was getting a bigger camera such as the HPX2000 or even a RED; but having access to some of those features listed would keep a lot more people interested in continuing HVX use.

It's like being in a relationship and starting to lose interest in your current significant other because the other possibilities are starting to look better than what you have....we need something to keep us interested.

is the hvx200a worth the buy if you are working on "controlled lightings" projects? the 200a noise is a lot less noticeable on barry green's video but it was an "extreme conditions" test. what about a "controlled lighting" situation with cinelikeD and detail at 0 for example? will i notice a big difference?

Matching HVX with HVXa model

Matching HVX with HVXa model

Barry, thanks for running your initial tests on the HVX200a. I'd like to get another camera to do multi-camera shoots - already own an HVX200. I am just wondering whether you thought the HVX200 and the HVX200a could be adjusted to match?

Hi everyone,

There will be one 16GB card in the HVX200A box with Barry's book.

So is the 200A worth more than the $400 Rebate on the HVX? Well maybe but perhaps a lot more. I mean if you look at the $400, you are part way to a small lighting kit, or a set of filters or a matte box. If you have a controlled setting, and don't make your camera settings work against you, it might be worth the $400 to buy the HVX200 instead of the A. There are not a lot of them in inventory, but obviously the first place to look is B & H. I know they had some last week. Samy's Camera in LA had some as well, although he may have sold them all at the NAB show.

Keep in mind that the 200A only has the new CCD assembly and no other features of the HPX170.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Using manual white balance, I'm pretty sure you could match them well. Not so sure if using the preset white balance, but under manual they should match up. You might have to gain up the 200A to match the noise signature of the 200.

hehe .... price in france: hvx200 -> 7200$ / hvx200a -> 11330$ (announced price in one of the main professional shop) .... we want Jan Crittenden in europe too!!!!!

This must have something to do with European taxes on recording equipment? Yes? This actually helps me understand total issue of Global economy.

Thanks,

Jan

That price is insane!!! pay nearly double of the price to get better ccds...

That pricing MUST be a rip off. Sorry for my harsh words. But in the European Union prices tend to be quite similar and also taxes have become more similar in recent years. A HVX you can buy definitely below 5000€ everywhere in the €-area.
