If there is only one company that can offer 1k camera , 35mm size CCD sensor + stock nikon mount(interchangable) and sell it under $ 10k. It will be a huge seller. Barry !! we need the GREEN ONE.

I am sorry but i am not paying $5000 for a vibrating/spinning/pistoning/pulsating/throbbing glass on a small motor.

At $9k, the letus relay + ultimate costs more than a panasonic hpx 500. I just failed to see the logi and justification. But it aint my money, you guys do whatever you want with your dough !

You show me where you can get a working RED ONE for 18k and I'll show you where a pot of gold is.

9K for a Relay Adapter setup is perfect. I can't wait for my Relay and Ultimate to arrive, and will be shooting HPX500.

That said, shooting RED ONE kills any adapter setup. There's no way in hell we would've been able to get the light we got on last night's shoot with an HVX + Adapter setup.

And what are you talking about Letus selling out to Zacuto? The Ultimate has been in development for quite some time and is a Letus product. Zacuto is just riding the Le Brothers' coat-tails. The unit is priced According to benefits and that's pretty much being an SGpro and Extreme rolled into one. The price is right, whether it's worth it to an individual is simply a matter of choice
I love shooting RED. But, it ain't no 18k run and gun. Sorry.

If you think you're gonna get away with that RED ONE package in a real shooting environment you're sorely mistaken. That's the major problem: people coming from 35mm Adapter + HVX realm really don't realize what you need to shoot RED ONE.

You couldn't put together an effective RED ONE package for less than 25k. And by effective I mean actually going out and shooting something. You need at LEAST 3 RED batteries, at LEAST 3 CF Cards, The Laptop horsepower to handle speedy on-set offloading, more than one on-board viewing option, etc etc.

The only thing close to an EX or HVX when dealing with RED is the tapeless acquisition. RED ONE couldn't be any further from shooting HVX + 35mm Adapter. Although you've shot with it so you really must know that.

Ain't nothin' wrong with being Optimistic, at the end of the day there's nothing close about RED ONE vs EX/HPX+35mm Adapter.

I'm not tryin' to tell anyone where to spend their money, just make sure you know what you're spending it on or what you aren't.

Yes, you can shoot with just 1 8 gig card. However, that 8 gig RED CF card can only give you 4 minute of 4k footage. Here is the main kicker, if u want that 35mm shallow dof, you gotta shoot in 4k. Thats why no one is running and gunning with the RED ONE. Not to mention, why in the world do they only have a 1 slot CF module.

Thats why i said, the RED workflow right now is horrendous. Not to mention, the 1 hour that you need in order to edit a few min of 4k footage. But you can also edit in FCP using proxies and pro rez to help with the workflow. But, yes, RED workflow is not pretty.

Scarlet, you are our last hope.....

Yeah, you can shoot with 1 CF Card... make sure you double your scheduled shooting dates as well. Offloading 1 8Gb CF card and waiting for the camera to come up is unacceptable in a professional shooting environment. Not only are you wasting everyone's time on set the moment you have to go and offload, but you're also burning battery power while doing so which increases the downtime in the long-run.

And RED ONE boot-up times are no joke.

I get what you're saying. Don't think that I don't. Just that if you've actually used the Camera that way of thinking wouldn't be present by any means.

RED's expenses extend a lot further that 22.5k. You're basically out shooting camera tests with a package like that.

At 18/19k, however, with an EX-1 or HPX500 you're good to go for MANY applications.

Very true..
The RED is a monster, but it sure is not a camera you can push a button and moments later be looking at new finished quality footage. Your dealing with RAW images that need to be corrected.

Also, you're right about shooting in 4K for the tight DOF stuff, and mother is the frame data size is huge! This will drop most hard drives and computers to their knees.

The workflow on the RED ONE is huge.
Having said that, with a lot of money and time, this camera has the potential of producing unreal stuff. I'm hearing a soon to be released software upgrade will have an improvement on image quality.

Fortunately, a camera coworker has the RED ONE so I've had a chance to see this thing in action a couple times.

I just DP'd my RED ONE short last night, 3 man crew and it was pleasant but there was definitely a need for a larger crew. We shot to the RED drive and I'm just now offloading at this moment. We didn't even fill up half the RED drive shooting 4k.

And, there's definitely no point and shoot aspect to it. Even looking at Proxy files is unconvincing but when it's all said and done, and just looking at the footage through the Carrion (this monitor is KILLER on so many levels) it's worth every hassle right now. Especially for people who can't afford to bring on massive lighting packages.

EX-3 and the other cams have that main benefit over the RED in producing IMMEDIATE results. What you see is what you get, with a little play for grading/correction.

If RED ONE had that in the Proxies it'd be sick.

I think I've missed something in the chain here perhaps someone can clear up.

Far as I understood it, the EX1 35mm adapter combo worked as thus - the 35mm lens converges on the 35mm adapter glass. The EX1 then focuses on that glass, like filming a cinema screen, and records that image.

If you have the EX3 and detach the kit lens then how can you just attach a 35mm adapter/35mm lens, do you not need something to record the adapter image, or have I missed the point?

yes you need a relay lens if you remove the stock lens. Like this b4 one used by Letus on a full sized 2/3" camera

I think this have been asked many times before, but here it goes:

Any dates for the release of the EX-3?

With the EX3 I think you have to ask yourself whether a relay lens is really necessary if you intend on using a 35mm adapter. It's the same lens and imaging system as the EX1, so performance is going to be identical to using the EX1 with an adapter.

I think it's very interesting that Sony have so blatantly ripped-off the design of Canon's XL cameras (though the EX1 was crying out for it), though perhaps that says more about how right Canon got it years ago with the XL1 than it does about Sony.

I may have missed many discussions about the features of EX3, but besides the interchangable lens and a few others, is there any improvement in the resolution such as record to flash card at 35mbs instead of 25mbs?

No the actual image specs are the same just more features. Interchangable lenses is huge as well as HD-SDI out with TC I/O and genlock for using in a facility. Sony is also offering a 60GB HD to plugin to the SxS card slot for more recording time. Quite a few features that make the added cost worthwhile. Oh and the viewfinder is superior to the EX1.

I bet the interchangeble lens will cost thousands of dollars, correct? Once the 60GB HD plugin for the SxS card has arrived, will it also work with EX1? On the viewfinder, does it has more resolution than the EX1? If yes, by how much?

It seems to me that a B4 relay with Letus on an EX-3 would still only give you 1/2" of a 2/3" image. This would be useful I guess but would not give you the full image. Toi get the full image you would still need to use a standard Letus in front of the EX zoom lens.

Am I missing anything here.

at the rumored $12k price , if you dont need Tc in/out and not going to spend big $$$ for 1/2" lenses; I dont think the Ex3 is going to be worth it. At that price, I rather get 2x Ex1 instead and invest in 35mm adapters and lenses and good quality wide angle adapters.

Ask Canon H1 owners, and see how many actually purchased additional canon lenses.

i'm thinking about ex3 just because of a possibility to have it with an adapter, but not loose light, and sharpness when having to mount adapter before camera lens.

Yes, not having to use the 1/2" fujinon + 35mm adapter will be nice. However prepare to spend $$$ for the b4 relay (letus will have one for the rumored price of $4500). You still need to get a 35mm adapter to put in front of the relay, the new letus ultimate is rumored to be $4500.

so Letus relay + letus ultimate = $9000
or letus relay + letus extreme = $5700

With the price of the EX3 at the rumored $12k, your cheapest complete setup will be $17,700 and $21,000 with the letus ultimate.

I dont know about you, but if I have those money to spend on a setup, it is not going to be the 1/2" CMOS EX3.
