Exciting Sony NAB announcements

Panasonic hvx200a better step up to the game or the XDCAM EX series going to be the new "dvx100" for the indie market.

Whoa B4 mount- now that is an exciting camera. The price is 5995 pounds- that's about $11,500. But then again stuff is always more expensive in Europe and that includes taxes. Wonder what the U.S. price will be. If it goes for $10K or just under they have a big winner.

This is hilarious about 3 weeks ago I told sony canada that it made sense to make an interchangable ex1 in the 12k-ish range and asked if they were working on something like that and you should have seen the look on their faces. They didn't want to release any info to me. I guess it was because I hit the nail on the head.

I would put money on this being US$9,995 after discounts.

The opposition ( Panasonic) seem to be nowhere at the moment. Unless there's an announcement soon about an amazing HVX200A, they have been left for dead.

I do hate to agree, but yep Panny better step up or they will be punk'd. This though is the kind of news that has made me grow to hate Sony. Those people who bought the EZ1 now have this, obviously more decked out and upgradable, and more complete camera out relatively soon thereafter. The better viewfinder alone is worth chucking in the EX. I didn't like that viewfinder and the ergonomics.

This does look good so come on Panny step up. I also wouldn't be surprised if it's actually 8995. If there's no progress I might have to buy one of these buggers and I do hope that someone makes a direct 35mm mount that isn't crazy expensive.

I think its the same LCD screen as the EX1 but with a maginying glass stuck in front of it. they have got rid of the rear viewfinder that hardly anyone used anyway.

As long as the whole casing of that viewfinder is removable so we can just use the LCD screen, then thats a good move.

Hi Steve, how is home? I can answer all your questions and more...tomorrow!!!! I have started a thread in the EX section where I answer everyone's questions...tomorrow!!!

Nigel will post it again after the announcement. About 27 or so hours away I believe. All the info is out here now anyway!

I agree the EX3 looks nice. But I can't help but think that it's still susceptible to the same problems as the EX1, namely vignetting, back focus, far focus, CA, and letters wearing off (not to mention rolling shutter issues). I hope Sony is able to solve these problems before they release the camera.

I'm also waiting to hear what Panasonic and Red have to say. Competition is good for us consumers.

Bloody freezing! Snow last week all over the south, hail storms today! Think you are better of in Vegas!

Just watched it and very nice. Worth the upgrade from the EX1? The frame rate button looks a very cool new feature rather than menues.

Jeez I just hope that the issues of build quality aren't quite so relevant with this model as the EX1 as I honestly think some folk will be neurotic about that despite the cams impressive specs

I thought Sony had already fixed the 'vignetting' issue with EX1 with a firmware update; mine has no signs of vignetting at all.

Also using Letus with EX1 glass has no issues either.

Yes, I shouldn't have posted the details of Sony's new HD products. It was a mix-up on dates. Was told 12th by my Sony contact, he got dates wrong, should have been 13th. Checked NAB website and it states Conferences/Press etc starts on 11th so I had no reason to believe otherwise.

After getting a call from my main Sony contact on this, with his request for me to pull it until tomorrow, I did so straight away.

It was only live for 3 hours before being pulled. I'll be putting it back Sunday night.

Is the price really confirmed at 13k? They said "less than 13k". Can this mean 9990? This is my hope...
