Headphones: Studio Monitoring or Noise Canceling

Before I lay out my hard earned, I'd like opinions on monitoring vs. noise canceling for use with an XH A1. ($150 +/-)

Never use noise-canceling headphones. They're designed to filter out frequencies that you'll want to hear. Use the Sony MDR-7506. For $100 it's a killer deal.

Yeah, the noise canceling headphones don't allow you to hear true sound. I have had a pair and did not like them. The best headphones I have used are the ones I made from high quality protective headphones. I took a set of sony headphones, used a soldering gun to take the wires off, drilled a hole and resoldered them inside the protective headphones. It really lets you hear what you are recording without outside interference. Everyone I show them to likes them so much, I made a few more sets.

I recommend the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's. They are great for monitoring, mixing, and they are also pretty comfortable! They are also great for isolating any outside noise. Check them out! Don't buy the sonys, i don't think they are accurate for mixing (just a personal opinion).

Thanks Everyone!

Thanks Everyone!

After the explaination of loss due to noise cancellation, and your headphone recommendations, I read a few audio community reviews and my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's are on their way from Newegg.
