Hello all!

I answered the call to a challenge I saw a week ago....

grill_itBANNER.jpg

... and made a video of my Grilled Buffalo Wings. (a recipe I developed in 1995!)

Though I don't watch the Food Network and had to actually google "Bobby Flay," I thought that this would be fun. As well as a good experience to make a "how-to" video.

I am sending off a tape to them soon but wouldn't mind sharing here for any feedback or adjustments ideas you may have.

btw, these are GREAT wings! Feel free to make them and let me know how you did with them!

Thanks,

Ted

Ted I just finished watching - your fantastic!! You could totally give Bobby a run for his money! Not too mention those wings look so freakin good. The sweet of the carmlized maple syrup with the hot of the spices sounds awesome. I think I may make these for easter! Maybe play them off as rabbits feet?

Great job Ted! Your time spent both in front of the camera and behind it have paid off!
I thought you came off as very relaxed and comfortable inn front of the camera. You had great banter throughout the sequence as well.
Loved the checking the timecode bit! :)
Sounds like a recipe I'll have to try when it warms up a bit here!

Thanks Kevin! Yeah, I thought that the timecode bit was funny, too. The recipe is great! I have posted a few suggestions on my TimeFest thread for jdajda... (some don't like things as hot as I do! jdajda IS NOT among that group but he is planning on making these this weekend. I thought I should offer some alternatives.)

As for the weather.... TELL ME ABOUT IT!

I had initially set up the camera outside facing the other direction BUT the mounds of snow was freaking out my camera sensors! LOL!

Thanks Simon. I am glad that you enjoyed that. What do German's do for BBQ? You must grill?

Well, we normally just throw some meat or sausages onto the grill. The meat often marinated. What was really different, is the time you put them onto the grill. I was like "53 minutes, oh my god". I would have taken them off the grill probably after 10 minutes. The wings look burned to my eyes, but I guess its just that they are caramelized. So do they taste sweet and spicey? I would probably really like them.

Thats what you would typically see on a german grill:

Following is also quite common in germany, but not really to my taste. It's called Spanferkel and is basically a complete pigling:

Well, that looks mighty good, Simon.

I will admit that I cook my wings longer than most people might like. They really can come off the grill after 30 minutes. And I would have actually liked to have pulled mine off about 5 minutes sooner, but the action of taping myself and cooking got a bit distracting!

But they weren't burnt. They had some "crispies" on them but my wife and I like them that way!

Thanks for sharing your pix!

Alright, thats what I guessed. I would really try to make some like these during summertime, but I think it will be pretty hard to find this red cayenne pepper sauce.

Do you not have Tabasco Sauce? I probably can't send food products overseas... or can I?

If I can, I'll send you a bottle.

Look what I found!

If you really don't have anything like tabasco sauce (red pepper cayenne sauce), I'll send you a care package!

Oh man, you are too good Ted! If it is similar to tabasco, then it should be no problem to find. No need to send it over. Thanks alot!

So many great people on this board. Really looking forward to the day I will actually visit the US.

Well, let me know when you are heading over... If you are in the New England area, you have a place to stay.

Can you mail me some? My parents are gone and I don't know how to cook.

Those looks UNREAL!

Good job!

Robbie

Thanks Como! If we ever have a DVXUSER Picnic, I'll bring these! (how many pounds of wings would that be???)

Geez Simon you are really making me missing being in Germany.

Awesome job Ted, do you deliver? :D

Hey Matthew! Thanks! I am sure that TEXAS is not slacking in the BBQ department!

(but yeah... I know what I'm having whenever I get a chance to visit Germany!)

I love these kind of hanging grills. There is an amazing one in Texas... (Matthew, have you ever been to the Salt Lick? It is in Driftwood, TX outside of Austin. Fantastic!!!!)

Simon, is this boneless chicken breast? It looks delicious.

This is a cool looking BBQ grilling area. Do you cook with wood on this? Is it a smoker?

Yeah, those hanging grills are pretty cool. They often use these at a parish fair. Also bigger ones, like this:

I suppose it is chickenbreast. At my family we often eat boneless meat. We love it. Also like lamb filet, pork filet or filet steak with some nice marinade.

For the bbq we use charcoal. But afterwards we remove the grate and make a fire using wood. So we have some nice atmosphere after the meal. It is no smoker.

But I must say your grill looks also freakin awesome! It's definately more comfortable. :)
