hey folks,

It would be great to hear your opinions on my efforts on this commericial for a book. being on youtube it's somewhat compressed but u should still be able to get an idea for it. It was recorded onto HHB portadat through an SQN series 4 mixer with an Sennheiser MKH60 for exteriors and AKG 451 for interiors. The V/O was recorded in my car parked in my parents garage with the MKH60.
There are some things i could be happier with but it would be great to hear from you guys.
Cheers for your time.

Same here. What camera did you/they shoot on?

Aaah that is a good question. They shot on a mixture of Super 8, Super 16 and 35. The 35 mm camera was not one that it is ever used if sync sound (usually it's used for pop promos being very noisy and having no barney) is desired but with the budget it was the only one available. I said to the director, that on those scenes using that camera it is highly likely that you'll have to ADR it all. When I said that he started grabbing on to me (mock dramatically) saying "don't say those three letters, there's no budget." I explained fully the limitations to him but I said I would do my best. The camera (in the scene with the vacuum cleaner) was about 2 metres away from the subject and in my cans it sounded like ADR city. On playback however it sounded not quite so bad. I had got the mic as tight as possible and asked the actress to pump it out a bit. The director thought the results sounded ok too and we thought that once some vacuum cleaner noise was added we might get away with it, which we did and i'm quite happy with the results.

One of the bits I'm not please with is the bedroom scene with the actress holding the pillow. There's one bit which is quite quiet. We were shooting that on hand held super 8 which also generates quite a lot of noise. In retrospect i should think i should have upped the gain a bit.

sound wery good , exept the guy on the street which look like was to cleaned and seems not in synk
also maybe betetr celling rig was helping the tuilet scene
but overall no complains

Not sure I get what you mean Oleg about the ceiling rig.

BTW, cheers for your PM and I'm just doing a bit of research b4 making a decision

How come the toliet seat is up? Does she vomit into the toliet?

i don't know tbh i don't care about pictures lol. I suspect it was intentional as we had quite a large crew who would have brought it up if it wasn't, as it were.

to much eco in the toilet room
but it ok as it sounds natural :-)
best

Yes, i got you. It would have been improved if i stuck some blankets or carpet on the ceiling. I was micing from underneath the lens so had a bit of insulation from the camera op and focus puller. What would you recommend?
