Winter, a Fairy Tale

On behalf of the fantastic crew and cast of Winter, thank you for all the nice things and encouragement everyone has been giving us. We're all very happy with our entry and hope everyone gets a chance to see it.

Hey Guys, congrats on getting your film completed and uploaded! I am really looking forward to seeing your work again, Will.

Best,

Ted

yeah, cool poster.

Like I said I'm digging the grabs, and the concept sounds very interesting.

Good luck to you guys.

Jason

I saw the contest version today and I have to say that I'm proud that my original love story gave way to such an inspired film. Although I have a few regrets about not doing a Sasquatch love story period piece.

Seriously though, the final cut is great, and while we all wish we could have done a few things differently, with budget and time constraints this has really turned out to be a great little film. I hope you guys take time to check it out.

cheers,

JP

Just to make certain everyone caught this.....
The poster is the work of HordePrime aka Mike Pedro. Check out his work, there's a link to it on his sig.

New to the DVX User forum. Working with WIF on this project has been fun and challenging, and I have just now had time to sit at the computer & catch up on some things. I can't believe Winter is finally finished, uploaded, and viewable! The weeks flew by. While it's a relief to have this one complete, I can hardly wait for the next project to begin. Perhaps JP's Sasquatch piece? ;)

Hey Will and crew, just watched you film!

I must say, first off, that I am confused. This felt like two different stories. I know that I must be missing something and will watch it again.

I enjoyed the cinematography and the lighting, though I felt many of the cuts in the indoor scene were unmotivated and would cut to a similar shots. I would like to have seen some insert shots, c/u on hands, glass, book, etc. to get you to a new shot.

The outdoor scenes were beautiful and moving. Loved them!

Sound design needs a bit of work to smooth over some cutting between dialogue but the other than that, I thought that it sound good and I enjoyed the music.

Great job. I will be watching this again!

Congrats,

Ted

Nice work. The look was very cool, it really suited the mood.
I thought the pacing was a tad slow in spots but that's probably just a personal thing. Pretty decent acting as well.

Nice work overall.

Cheers,

Mike

I deeply admire your effort on this film. I thought many elements were very mystical and well done. I loved the falling snow elements, and the makeup. The writing wasn't bad, but I just did not enjoy the performances. The actors seemed too stuck in performing attitudes instead of coming from a place of truth, or roots with their character. The blocking on the other hand was great. I don't want to say the actors did a bad job necessarily, but perhaps miscast?

This was one of the films I was looking forward to seeing after having a cursory look at what the LoveFest had to offer. In a lot of ways I think I built it up in my head too much. Take that into consideration.

It is not easy to do a low budget fantasy style film. You did a great job.

The first thing that I didn't like was the relatively poor audio. Could have used some better foley work; some of the footsteps seemed off to me. I thought the scene where he was walking through the forest and climbing rocks would have been much better with sound. The quality of the dialogue itself was lacking as well. I'm not sure what it was, perhaps a better mic could have fixed it?
The score was well done, and complimented the film nicely.

I really like the set you used (which immediately added to the production value), as well as the setting for the outdoor scenes. As was mentioned by Kholi though, the jerky camera detracted from it. Framing could have been improved as well. I realize the glow on the whites was probably the look you were going for, but I personally didn't find it effective.

All in all, it seemed like it was missing something. Again I agree with Kholi, this story would have been well suited to something larger. It definitely had an epic feel to it, something that was likely impossible to realize within the time limit. It was an enjoyable film regardless.

I just watched the piece. I thought you guys did good work and all the effort you talked about showed through.

The snow sequence was definitely visually stimulating, as was the entire outdoor section. I have to agree with others though and say that I didn't think the two parts matched up very well. It did feel like two different films almost, but I understood how they connected when I took a mental step back and reevaluated.

I also didn't quite feel a strong kind of any emotion with the ***spoiler*** reveal of the nymph ***end spoiler*** where I thought I should have. I didn't know that the boy was looking for her or why he was journeying so I couldn't quite connect.

All in all I thought it was an entertaining film with a few minor story problems that kept it from being great.
