Need to show clients the advantages of P2.

If possible in german, english is OK, too.

Thanks, but they haven´t updated this for a while.

They only show 4GB cards and talk about DVCPRO50, not DVCPROHD.

This is out of date.

I want to show the advantages of the P2 HD workflow.

Is there anything else?

Thanks. At least they show 32GB cards instead of 4 GB.

But I want to impress the client. The flash film is nice, Panasonic should really update this and think about the HD customers as well.
For now it´s mainly news gathering.

Panasonic really needs a new P2 animation/flash film. Somebody should tell `em.

Advantages for what?

Acquisition, delivery, archiving, recording, VFR?

Help us out.

Also, why don't you just show them some footage? Explain why the manner or witj what it is acquired is a factor.

Its easy: clients don´t know P2.

To explain why P2 is much faster than tape, I want to show them how it works: all of the above. Especially workflow.

And how cool it is to work with this new HD technology. My clients like this. Musicvideos and advertisement...

I've been shooting with the HVX200 just short of two years.

My clients look at the footage and their jaws drop. None has ever asked about how it all works. Nor are they concerned with the workflow.

I show them slow motion footage and they can't believe.

That's why I asked.

1. p2 is faster than tape because the footage is transferred to a HDD equivalent and ingests several time real time.

How it works means what?

Workflow is no different than tape based except for the ingest portion and how you intend to deliver.

What do you intend as a delivery medium?

Also, workflow, other than the basics, is dependent on NLE, which you've not identified.

I don´t see where you are getting here, don´t get your point.

I work with Avid and don´t have to digitize as I used to with Betacam sp.

The output format is either DigiBeta, Beta sp, HDCAM, DVCPROHD tape or DVD or any other.

The point is: I want to show that P2 is faster than tape, DVCPROHD is almost as good as HDCAM and it is more fun to work with. Just a link on my webpage to show what kind of nice new technology the client can rent.
I want a flash film I can link to the equipment I have.
Therefore I need a nice looking up to date flash film or pdf or nice looking website.

Does this exist?

p2 cards ingest footage into NLEs without having to digitize anything. That's faster than tape, which is linear.

Are we on the same page there?

DVCProHD footage is "almost" as good as HDCAM?

HDCAM runs 135 Mb/s, and DVCProHD runs at 100 Mb/s. Pretty close.

Tim Kolb did a good review of the two formats: http://library.creativecow.net/articles/kolb_tim/formats.php

More "fun" to work with? I have no idea what you mean by that.

I don't know of any web sites that offer a flash version of:

1. p2 is faster than tape.

2. DVCProHD is almost as good as HDCAM

3. p2 is fun to work with.

Panasonic doesn't have one. I've not seen one in two and half years.

Might want to copy some of the points made and create your own pdf.

Not that I'm aware of.

But why not use that?

Then copy of a few of links I others have provided and create your p2 pdf.

How about this: I've offloaded a 16GB p2 card - that's over an hour of DV material, in 7min 30sec. That's a time (=cost) saving of about 85% over tape capturing.

At $100/hr for online post/capturing, that's a saving of $85. Or, put another way: you can do an 8-hour day's worth of capturing in an hour. Unattended. That's a week's worth of full time DV capturing before lunch on Monday. And this includes automatic clip creation, along with full shooting meta-data.

((... in camera or with the P2-decks or P2-gear, faster than realtime, and playout to tape/air/etc. ...within seconds of shooting.))

P2 rocks. :)

I know it rocks, I want to show the client that it rocks without having to design P2 pdfs or flashfilms, Panasonic should provide that.
32GB HD P2 card workflow really rocks. Hasn´t Panasonic spent any money on advertisement since 4GB P2 cards came out?

they dont have to create some doofy "flashfilm" to support the workflow time savings.

a simple headline reading: "eliminate the time you used to waste capturing tape - game, set match. P2 wins!" if people cant get their heads around that they should probably just stick with tape ; )

I know it rocks, I want to show the client that it rocks without having to design P2 pdfs or flashfilms, Panasonic should provide that.

I might be missing something, but WHY should Panasonic provide a Flash movie to sell how much fun editing is with p2 cards?

If you are trying to sell your clients on the technology, wouldn't that be what YOU DO?

Copy/paste the benefits of p2 from a huge database of sources on the internet, and create a cost/benefit sheet.

Or do it in PowerPoint.

This thread seems a little unnecessary. If you don't like Panasonic's marketing efforts or the form it takes, call the company

When I started shooting P2, I sent all my past clients a customized email with details on workflow and created a "producers workflow" PDF. This document showed HVX, and now HPX, workflow from camera to import to output to various formats.

Also included in the email are data on recording times in various formats, format highlights (variable framerates) and so forth.

I regularly point clients to the P2 projects area of the Panasonic website. They have some great articles that address the workflow for higher profile productions.

Thanks Erik.

David S.: if you think this thread is unnecessary, why do you keep replying?
There will be lot of other things we can discuss elsewhere, constructive information we can exchange in some other thread. No offense....later...

For all the others who understand what I need, I´d appreciate any sexy/cool P2 workflow descriptions/infos, well designed. Thanks.
