The Girl from Yesterday

Dude. Awesome! ONNNNLY thing, well two things actually. The reds were way too hot in a lot of the shots, I actually liked the un-cc'd versions better. I think the credits were a bit short. Just a bit. *COUGH!!!* lol.

My brother liked it too.

Cant wait to see more of your work!

Seriously. I would kill for a low cost monitor that displays the color accurately Very difficult to notice this on the camera LCD. This is one area that I'm going to improve next time.

Haha, I didn't even get a spot in the end credit. You should see how short it was before I extended it. When it first premiered the credit ran about 15 seconds to keep the length down.

good stuff, man! i liked the story, simple and sweet. liked the pacing, it fit the film well. acting wasn't bad. good choice in widening the world too, i liked the shots in the park, the gardens, and at the school.

Great flick! I enjoyed it. I thought it was very well done. I can't get over the truck scene. freakin brilliant lol.

Can you tell me what tripod and dolly your using?

Fantastic, that is a good question though...who was she calling? Or is that the point, that it doesn't matter? Maybe the whole flaking was just to relate to how guys get blown off all the time and they never really find out the reason why...and sometimes, it just all works out.

I think that she was talking to her current boyfriend. She was giving the loser BF a chance before getting serious with the new guy. That's what I got from it anyway. I could be wrong.

That's what I originally thought, but I wasn't sure. I thought that might be too simple. Hm, maybe someone will pop in and set the record straight.

Haha, thanks for all the comments guys. About that scene, there are several possible interpretations and I think it worked best when we all fill in the backstory ourselves.

The cast and crew did come up with another, more amusing interpretation of that scene. Which is why I've uploaded the FULL LENGTH audio commentary track for you guys to enjoy. It's on the top of the page in .mp3 format. You guys can either play the film and the track concurrently or drop it into your NLE timeline. Enjoy!

I liked the story... very enjoyable. There were a couple of cuts that made me cringe (either you cut to a shot and didn't hold it long enough and then quickly cut away, or you cut from a medium wide shot straight to another medium wide shot) but overall the film looked quite polished and smooth.
Some of the shots also had strong shadows on the walls due to your lighting set up... I understand it is hard to light a subject in some small rooms.. maybe next time just try and frame out the shadows. For me, when I see huge shadows on the wall, it kills the viewing experience... mainly because I go from "wow, I'm really getting into this story.. I wonder where it is going" to "oh look at that shadow on the wall.. there is obviously a light shooting onto the actor..." and then it takes me out of the state of wanting to know where the story is going and into the technical mind frame side of film production.

I just saw another thread posted by you saying you have another film in the works.. can't wait to see that one too! I think it's really cool you also uploaded your whole film to the net for people to view it and be entertained (and not just go for DVD distribution).

That's definitely true. This film was my first time working with professional lights, and there's definitely room for improvements. The biggest problem that I see was the lack of depth due to the large DOF of the camera. For my next film I'm going to be experimenting more with soft lights such as china ball and flourescence fixtures, which will hopefully reduces those shadows and give a more pleasant look. I just bought a Letus Extreme as well so that should help greatly in shortening the depth of field and gives the scene a more 3-dimensional looks.

I also agree about the cuts. I think I know which ones you're talking about. The reason for most of them was poor on set planning on my part as far as how the scenes would cut together in post. Continuity would be off when someone's hand is in the wrong position or they're not facing the right way, so I did my best to cut to other things. This too, will improve with experience I think. Thanks for your comments!

That was such an excellent film. It gave me a great smile even though I've been having a terrible week. Thank you sir for making this! I added you to my aim buddy list by the way, I would like to further discuss this brilliant film and the making of it. I am quite interested. I'd really love to see this on a film festival.

Whoops, I totally missed this, sorry about that. I was using a Bogen 516 tripod head on 3046 sticks. Decent fluid head, crappy stick.

All of the dolly shots were done using the IndieSnap! Flex Track dolly. It's an awesome system that's incredibly portable and produces excellent results.

Haha wow, that must have been annoying. I listened to the commentary. Interesting take your cast/crew had on what the phone conversation could be! Of course there were minor, technical flaws but it was so enjoyable I had to watch it twice to even pick up on it. Only scene I didn't really like, was the "$40 on candy per week" conversation scene at the table.

Is there any possibility of distribution or purchasing a copy somewhere?

Hey Kegan, I'm producing a small quantity of DVDs for the cast and crew as well as for festival submissions. There's quite a bit of extra content on there as well. Shoot me a PM and we'll see what you can do to help out a starving college student :cheesy:.

Haha, deal. I know what it's like to be a university student. I'll send you a PM. Always willing to support a good film.
