"Blind Date" by TheComo, Kegan Sant & John Labonney

Well, I guess I'll pop my head in on the thread. It was an exhausting shoot, thats for sure. I think I've had an actor/actress bail on me for almost every shoot I've worked on, so it was no surprise when one of the actresses called me at 7:30 this morning to say she wouldn't be able to make it because of some family issues she was having.

A person's gotta do what a person's gotta do, so I wasn't going to hold it against her if she had something involving her family she had to take care of.

It was snowing pretty heavily and Robbie's about an hour away from me, so I wasn't sure if we were going to make it on time. Worrying about finding a replacement for an actress on a Sunday's definitely no fun, but we decided to press on regardless.

Picking up one of the actresses, packing all the equipment in the car and finally getting to Robbie's house was a task in itself. People were driving like idiots, as per usual in mildly poor weather. Everything else seemed to work itself out and now it was time to get started.

One of our actors was going to be late, but that wasn't too much of a problem because we were able to film his parts later. Some of the shots were tight and we had to think of creative ways to fix our problems. As Robbie said, one of our main issues was shooting an outdoor scene when it was pitch black out. I guess we waited too long - stuff happens though and we worked around it (shooting in HD, the lowlight really isn't as good, but at this point we didn't have much of a choice).

Everyone was starting to get more tired nearer the end of the day, but we were almost done and were able to get into the restaurant and shoot everything perfectly fine. The manager was polite and helpful for whatever we needed and we even got a waiter in one of the shots, just for fun.

I snapped some BTS pictures when I could, which I'm sure Robbie will have put up by the time I finish typing my post and all in all, I think our shooting day was a success.

Time to capture and stick 'er in the editing room!

EDIT: Just forgot to mention that there were some things we changed in the script, more or less improvising as we went on which took a little longer than usual. I think it fit the overall theme better and the message was accurately relayed.

Sounds like it all worked out guys! Way to stay positive and keep on keeping on. Others would've just cancelled the whole shoot faced with what you got. Looking forward to seeing some frame grabs from this.

Looking at the grabs, it appears that there were some changes to the original script. Could be interesting!

Glad you made it to post-production!

John

I was wondering how you new about the change, and then I remembered the restaurant scenes :)

I hope that didn't give away anything...Nahhhhh.

There were a couple changes John. Hopefully nothing too drastic that you'll be dissapointed with. We stuck with the overall theme and hopefully you'll like the end product.

Due to the FTP being slow and HDV footage being much bigger, I decided to just burn data DVDs and mail them to Robbie, using express post. He should either get them tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Post should begin tomorrow,

Kegan

Having a script I wrote picked up for production and turned into a film is already a total victory for me, so don't sweat it. My position on changing the script has already been discussed in this thread.

You guys are the man!

One grab added!

looking good Robbie - can't wait to see this one. Glad you're having fun doing it too - to me thats the most important part, followed closely by making a kick ass short.
