Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

Ok... where do I start on all of this?

1) the Sarah Connor Chronicles was really pretty good over all. I liked the way they kept some humor in, without going full tilt cheesey.

2) Highlander is crap... except the series. At least they put a little effort into keeping their stories straight... until the SciFi channel made a movie.

3) Summer Glau is kind of cute, mostly creepy, but I wouldn't go as far as to say she was hot. However, she really gives depth to the role, maybe drawing on her role in Firefly?

4) Summer is definitely not the standard terminator. When she was scanned, the other terminator couldn't identify her make and model. This makes me think she comes from a more distant future, further queering the already established timeline.

5) Will there be a romance between boy and bot? She has silicon enhancements, and they used recycled Hoover vacuums to build her. So Hell yeah!

Oh, and...
6) The reason the Bank was replaced by the freeway, when they were escaping, there was a "not really nuclear" weapon discharge, a time bubble, and a rampaging terminator. I think the bank was pretty well trashed.

Technically, it might not have--if the freeway was being built over the old bank location, both the head and body might have been (separately) buried in rubble for eight years. (OK, not the most likely of scenarios, I'll grant, but it could work that way. :) )

They showed the head tumbling out of the time bubble.

Must've missed that.

KyleReese: You go naked. Something about the field generated by a living organism. Nothing dead will go.
Dr. Silberman: Why?
Kyle Reese: I didn't build the poo pooing thing!
Dr. Silberman: Okay, okay. But this cyborg, if it's metal...
Kyle Reese: Surrounded by living tissue.

Makes you wonder if, if the head had still had the skin on it, if that would have qualified, or if by being separated from the body and whatever sort of circulatory system the Terminators must have to keep the skin alive, it would instantly be considered "dead" and not go through...

As for "queering" the timeline, it's already pretty screwed up... :) (Even if you don't count T3, which goofs it up more than this show, IMO.) For example, I don't know why Cameron would write that the technology to build the T800's wouldn't exist for "about forty years" and then make his "Judgement Day" to be more like 13... ;) The 2011 date that I've heard in relation to this show makes more sense, still leaving a good ten years for the Resistance to become enough of a threat that Skynet has to design the Terminators to counter them, and then ultimately step up to stronger measures.

I watched last night, but it felt pretty light weight. Oh, and Linda Hamilton was a much hotter Sarah Connor. This one looks like she stepped of a soap opera.

Okay, the second episode sucked. I was with it after the first. But once the focus of the show moves from terminators beating each other up, to pretentious voice over and pretentious statements on the state of the world ALL THE TIME, I'm out. I'm sorry but that's just boring to me. A couple of other things. Fox... If you can't hire directors that know how to shoot fight scenes, cancel the show. The super close-up "nobody knows who's winning" fight sequences just frustrate viewers. Adding louder punch sound effects does mask the fact that all that's really happening is two people rubbing up against each other with the camera moving around a lot. If Terminators are going to fight, we want to see it. (side note: I don't know enough about fight sequences to know if showing the fight costs too much money - but even if it does -- then what was the point of making this show in the first place?)

The other thing is... Terminators don't run to protect themselves. Maybe if they're protecting someone else. But Terminators aren't scaredy cats. As soon as I saw that Terminator decide to run... I was finished with this series. Very disappointed.

p.s. who else saw that they used a DIFFERENT ACTOR FOR JOHN CONNOR in the scene where he goes back to see his mom's old cop boyfriend??? Was that not weird?? They used a DIFFERENT ACTOR. I thought I was watching a weird dream sequence.

Linda Hamilton was excellent, and even worked her butt off to get buffed up for T2. However, casting her in this role would have been as big a mistake as casting Schwarzenegger as the Terminator.

I think you may not have seen what you think you saw.

Go back and watch it again. It's a different face (notice how after he dives behind the counter, we never seen him in close-up again - it's from then on that he's different) and a different voice. If you have this tivo'd, go look. I promise you I'm right.

Oh no, she's hot. Kinda alien looking. A bit off. And cant act to save her life. But definitely hot.

As for Linda vs. Lena: Linda is scary not hot. Like not even a question, not hot. Lena is more than decent. Looks wise, I find her better in this than 300. (However, I think she kicked A in 300.)

Good point about the bank blowing up, but I imagine it was still situated on a city block. The explosion cleared so much room they were like "F* it. Lets just build a freeway here."

Regarding a possible romantic involvement between John and Cameron The Robot Chick, I think everyone is missing the BIG conflict. If John loves Cameron, then he's got a HUGE problem -- because destroying Skynet and defeating the robots will cause Cameron to cease to exist!

Save humanity = lose the girl. What greater emotional conflict can there be???

I think it's BRILLIANT!

eads: regarding the "different actor", I just watched the scene again on TiVo. It is definitely the same actor. Down to the moles on his neck and face.

ChapelGrove: Terminator doesn't follow the Back to the Future school of time travel. If they change the future, as has been done to an extent quite a few times, then physical matter doesnt cease to exist. So there is no time travel "ooh I'm gonna lode my tin girlfriend" paradox.

I think the real problem is thrusting too hard and hurting oneself.

Would they use Penzoil for lube?

I hope not. After doing all my Batutta research online about the series and timeline and time travel physics of the series (films and TV), the whole thing is messed up. They haven't been consistant with anything and dates are messed up through all the films. One thing that has been consistant is that earth maintains proper physics which means matter doesnt just cease to exist in a poof of time travel paradox.

I think I liked it all better before the research.

One thing from eps2 that bugged me is that John is supposed to be a convicted hacker and his mom doesnt want him near a computer, but then when he's in the computer store he doesnt know what "clear your history" means.

At least Summer is hot.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure browsers had histories already in '99. :)

Then again, he was a convicted hacker, so maybe that's how they caught him, cause he didn't know about them back then either. :D

And the thing that's scary about Lena Headey is that (according to IMDB, at least) she's three years younger than me. If that's right, she would've been 11 when Terminator came out in '84...

Also, one thing I just thought of:

It's seriously straining credibility that Judgment Day keeps getting pushed back further and further, yet John still ends up being the Great Leader of the Resistance every time it does.

The thing is--John knows about Judgement Day now, and that puts him in the position of being the perfect person to be the GLotR every time the timeline changes. Heck, you could argue that it almost predestines him to be. (Like I said, I totally don't buy that "no fate but what we make ourselves" stuff. :) )

But the truth is, the future is not set in stone. Any number of random incidents could occur, causing the future to be altered. It is only a possible future. Being born into a life where he knows the robots are going to take over, and that he is the only hope? If that wouldn't have an effect on you, I don't know what would. He could just fall into drugs and alcohol, dying well before the war begins... which would nullify the need to go back to kill him... I hate time travel themes.

I would say that all the Terminators coming back for him, over and over again, is pretty strong evidence.

And unless you plan on totally discounting the first movie, he's IS the one who leads the resistance. They'll probably screw the pooch on this, though.
