Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

I've been seeing promos for this. At first I thought "wow, they're going to screw it up again."

But as I'm watching trailers and clips on youtube, I'm becoming more and more interested. It seems like they're completely disregarding what happened in T3 (thank god), and just taking off from T2.

The casting is interesting. They didn't take a look alike approach, but rather casted for talent. I'll be strange to see a Terminator story without Arnold though. However, I like the girl from firefly (go firefly!).

I just wonder how the show will be. Will it be cheesy? Will it be too over the top?

Will you be watching? I know I will.

I am hoping they do a good job with it, I think it will turn out better than Terminator 4 (2009) directed by McG which will continue were T3 left off.

I don't think that is the case. In T3 Sarah Conner was dead. This series will focus on the time between T2 and T3 prior to Sarah Conner's death. Its from the same production company that makes the Terminator films (I believe) so they will not change their story. This will be like the Star Wars Clone Wars series.

Well, there were (at least) three different Highlander continuities going on simultaneously, all by the same producers. Don't know about this series, though.

I just saw the pilot last week. Non-stop action! Explosions! Wow! Looks like it's going to be pretty cool from what I saw.

You're right. However in T3, although she died, John Connor was absolutely sure they stopped the attack when he destroyed Arnold in the hot metal in T2. He makes no mention of any other attacks, and is even surprised to see the Terminator.

So it is my belief that they won't take it into regard. If they do then they're screwing a lot of things up, or they will take a lot of liberties.

Okay, there were some parts of the series I liked. But jeeeez-US did they mess up the movies. The second one....well it was one of the biggest travesties in the history of cinema. I literally feel my heart sink everytime I think about it. I remember going to see it in the theatre opening night with some friends who loved the original s much as I do (An Italian Highlander poster is at the center of my movie poster collection, and as I may have mentioned on these boards, my wife and I chose "One Year of Love as our wedding song). We were stunned. We got drunk like we lost a friend. Heartbeaking. There is nothing worse to me than a missed opportunity.

The third one was a joke, but at least there was no mention of the planet Zeist. And my expectations for Endgame were pretty low....so....

But as for Sarah Conner, this could be very good if handled well. I can remember watching T2 for the first time, and when John is hanging in Mexico with Sarah's gunrunning buddy I thought it would be cool to know more about that part of her life. There is obviously room for lots of action, but there is also this great opportunity to see a great character arc as she morphs from a reluctant and unsure woman into a take-no-prisoners, borderline psycho, who can drink you under the table, kick your ass, make a bomb and fly a helicopter all at the same time.

There would be little need for sci-fi effects, (just regular guns and bombs) and the best part is that there would be no Edward Furlong...who (for me) was the second worst casting of a child actor after that muppet they cast as Anakin in Episode I.

I'm looking forward to this. But I'm prepared to be disappointed. Again.

I actually didn't mind T3 that much. It certainly wasn't as good as either of its predecessors, but overall I liked it.

T3 certainly went against the whole "no fate but what we make ourselves" mantra that Cameron infused into T2--but, personally, I never bought that. I mean, you've got a movie where one of your protagonists is the child of a guy who came from the very future you're trying to stop, and you're trying to make me believe that we control our own destinies? No Skynet = no time machine = no Reese travelling through time = no John (which, as has been mentioned, might have been a good thing given the actor :) ), at least by my understanding of the "rules" of time travel. I never believed "Judgement Day" had been diverted; my personal theory was always that it had "originally" occured later than 1997, but that the discovery of the first Terminator's CPU had advanced the completion of Skynet to that date (a theory not incompatible with T3, as it happens).

But of course the "rules" of time travel are open to much interpretation and argument... ;)

I'm sorry I had to laugh when watching a preview of the show.

Everyone is hurrying into a car, and you hear one of them call "Shotgun", the other calls "9mm".

LOL I'm laughing my ass off thinking how bad that line is. I hope they don't completely crap all over the Terminator but that single line just kept me from watching the show.

Don't remember that. The writing seems so so from the previews though. The "Come with me" line seems cheesy, but then I remembered that it's what Arnold told Sarah in the second film. Then there's the line of:

"You get the guns" *Cocks shotgun* "and I'll make pancakes."

I enjoy that line (even if other's don't). Like it or not, even if it's funny or not, it's a line that really defines her role as a mother and sums it up nicely.

Okay, just saw the first one today. Gotta say, I really enjoyed it. It seemed to capture a lot of the grittiness and darkness of T2, and I love how they brought in characters from T2.

Can't wait to see the next one tomorrow.

I agree, having some T2 characters was a great touch. I have to work tomorrow night so hopefully they stream it on Fox On Demand like they do with all their other shows.
