Cheapest way to capture HD?

With a net.

:D

No...it's all about what your needs are. Cheap and HD don't really mix well. Your only options are P2, firestore/citidisk, or direct to NLE via firewire cable. Each have their own tradeoffs. There really isn't a "cheap way."

Thats crap!

Only 60 minutes... An average cameraman shoots 2-3 hours of footage per workday.

Are you supposed to have 3 of these 60gig units?

OR

Carry a laptop around?... looks like the only way to shoot on HVX is to own a laptop?
That makes things a WHOLE LOT MORE EXPENSIVE!!!:thumbdown

Hey Nicky. It is often profitable to read about these rather than do a shotgun question approach.

The p2 Store holds 60 Gigabytes of footage

A 32 GB p2 card with 720/24pn footage holds about 84 minutes.

Do the math,

Sorry... Ill do research in future. Looks like P2 store is the cheapest option for 720P.

For 1080P looks like Firestore or laptop is the only way unless 60 mins is all one needs for a workday.

Ive been renting HVX200 for 2.5 years, and only now have I realized how EXPENSIVE it is to shoot without being tethered to a computer in a studio rig (shooting straight to FCP over firewire). Ive only used HVX in the studio, but all this time Ive been scratching my head tryna figure out how to shoot normally!!!:crybaby:

You can purchase a FS-100 at the marketplace for about $1000 these days.

With v.4 of the firmware, that will capture the equivalent of over three hours of 720/24p.
