For animation and graphics for 3d which is better 3D STUDIO MAX OR CINEMA 4D? are they the same? which software would you prefer?

Thanks.

You can produce beautiful work with either package and a good artist could beat the crap out of a mediocre one with either application. Go to www.cgtalk.com and look through the posts on the Max and C4D forums if you are seriously considering purchasing.

You also need to determine whether your focus is character animation, static renders, modeling etc. --- as well as whether this is strictly personal development or a serious attempt to work commercially for a third party house. If the latter, you need to consider other alternatives including Maya.

I agree with what Mark said and if you are new to 3d but have AE. I suggest Cinema 4d. It has a nice UI and is very compatible with AE. That is what I have I sold my Lightwave 9 for C4d 10. Also you probably should have posted this in 3d section you may have get more responses maybe a mod will move it.

Mark and triplej96 thanks for your quick response. We will actually focus on Logo 3D Animation. The client wants their logo to be in 3D with simple animation. We both have Motion and After Effects (but the 6.5). So we don't know what to purchase between the two 3D Softwares. I just know some basic stuffs in 3Dmax. What's more easier to use for beginners?

Thanks so much.

C4D is more than capable of handling anything for T.V . And for logos, well, any app can do that.

Bottom line is try all of the demos regardless and decide which one you feel comfy with. I recommend C4D but that's me. Not you.

It's almost a necessary piece of the bundle for me, and for only $500 extra it's not that bad. Beyond using it for cloners and such you can use it for so many other useful things. I've created trees that grow from nothing with minimal fuss using the Mograph module, as well as tank treads that are fully animatible, and many other things I can't think of right now.

Man that sounds awesome the trees. Do you have a video of that? I would love to see. I wonder if you can create this any other ways in C4D.

One way maybe, if you animated the points of splines that had a sweep nurbs on it to make up the branch, you could also animate the radius of the circle spline in the weep nurbs as well.
Even visibility of the material. It would be a bit tedious though.

I'll post a video as soon as I get a chance to upload something. I used SweepNURBS to make the branches then created a cluster of leaves with BezierNURBS using a leaf material with an alpha, then cloned that using Mograph and used a few effectors to randomize it and animated the clones to grow along the spline of the SweepNURBS branch. It was tedious, but it worked.

Sounds cool and tedious can't wait to see.

I'll cast my vote for Cinema4D as well. Lightwave is also a viable option. You don't have NURBS with Lightwave though. You do, however, have SubD (sub-divisional) modeling, which is a really cool feature.

depends solely on yr application
C4d does wonderful logos and grafix stuff AND is very intuitive to use (well compared to Maya or 3dsmax)
however for character animation: 3dsmax would be the way to go. do NOT try C4d for rigging characters!!
good luck

Gotta love this mentality!

Believe it or not, C4D can rig characters...gasp!
