My DVX-100A is not white balancing properly.

Hey guys..

Here's the deal. We're on a shot with the newer DVX-100B and the less than a year old DVX-100A. During the first day of shooting, both cameras matched very easily and effortlessly. On the second day, the DVX100A suddenly begins turning skin a harsh redish hue. Or course, immediately, we white balanced...no change. We've tried everything I know to try and it's still not working properly. I did have limited success by switching to chB and wtb...the colors were better...but, still red-ish. We're scratching our heads here wondering why it worked so perfectly one day and then completely would not white balance the next. It's almost impossible to match images.

What think ye?

Could the scene settings have been changed? Possibly chroma level too high or color temperature? It's a tough call without seeing it.

I don't know John, he says the first thing they did was white balance. And he switched to the B position. I'm stumped, I hope it's something simple.

FYI...we set both cameras side by side...identical settings..triple checked...did WTB on both...not at the same moment...but back to back...the DVX100B has awesome color levels...the DVX100A has skin that looks sun burned. I'm able to tweak the Color Temp on the 100Z and bring it somewhat in line...but...I just don't know what else to try.
We're going to try the DVRack color tuning sequence on set and see what happens.

Thanks.

Yes, this happened on my original DVX. The only solution I found was going to the scene files and change color temp to -2.

usually the A position is for automatic white balance.
use the B position when you want to manually white balance (pressing the button in the front). This configuration is changeable from the menus though. Maybe somebody messed up with that?

do you experience problems/look differences even putting the switch in the PRST position and using the 3.2k/5.5k presets?

also the white balance has limits. it can't white balance on literally every color.
but as far as i know, the older dvx100 and the 'a' version should have equivalent capabilities from this point of view..

If you are on A or B switch position and manualy w/balance, it is stored in A or B position (wherever the switch is). A and B swith positions are simply two w/balance memories.
Did you chech if your ATW is accidentaly on?

I'm quoting myself to highlight that what i've said is wrong. By default the automatic white balance (ATW) is NOT assigned to the A preset. A and B are two equivalent presets by factory default.
But i always keep ATW associated to A (from the SW MODE menu), that's why i forgot..

Just a suggestion for mentioned problem.
If the ATW (auto tracking white) is allocated to any position (A or B) it overrides the manual w/balance. Check your SETTING-SW MODE-ATW
