The little girl giant...

Think of this as my first time ever with a video camera of any sorts, but between the 4th-7th of May we had a time-travelling elephant and a giant little girl come to visit us in London. This is a 5 minute clip I put together from footage I shot with my HVX and FigRig on the Sunday.

It was a magical experience, and an ideal first shoot...

I was shooting purely from the crowd, constantly bustled and nudged, and I don't know how I would have managed without the FigRig. A lot of the footage was taken at shoulder height, and some held straight over my head, just to get a clear view.

It was all run through 'Smoothcam' in Shake to stabilise it further, with minimal gamma correction on a few shots, and then down-rezzed to PAL width from 1080P for the web.

Any feedback is appreciated as at the moment it's all a learning curve.

Enjoy...

This was f...cking brilliant. I'm majorly confused now. Björk-all-is-full-of-love style - confused. Real? Motion capturing and cg-model? Both? Who's the client, who would pay for such a thing with all those extras? Care to enlighten us how you did it?

Wow, that is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen... Was this a festival or something? You need to play with the manual settings a bit so you can get some nice colors, play with your exposure, and use manual focus.. Otherwise GREAT JOB for only having the cam, such a short period of time..!!

Enjoy your new toy!

It was hard to concentrate on the camera work. That giant spectical doll upstaged everything. I have never seen anything like that. It must have taken an incredible amount of talent to make that thing. Nice camera work. great colors.

That is the coolest creepy thing I've ever seen. I agree with Kholi --- that was scary! But really cool. Nice work. I, too, would like to know more about how, why, who, etc...

This is so cool; my wife and son both were trippin on it. Awesome subject matter.

The footy looks nice too although I find myself playing with the levels on almost everything that gets submitted it seems. Is it just my monitor and this is from a mac maybe ?

You shot this?

I saw a video of this same show in France last year. And I didn't know what the hell it was, but was absolutely amazed. My girlfriend at the time was a puppeteer.

If I'd known, I would have gone to London for this. Damn.

Thanks Owen for the link to what it is, so I don't miss it next time.

Freaking amazing. That is the definition of collaboration. Great job on the footage, editing, music, etc!

This footage triggered something inside me. Another view on the worlds creations. It is such a sureal feeling to see something like that. When the little girls were riding on its arm and it was looking down at them with such compassion...I trembled.
