Mac OS X can now write to Windows NTFS

For all you guys who capture to a windows laptop, and then transfer to Mac FCP, there seems to be a new user-friendly utility from Paragon that allows the Mac to read and WRITE to NTFS formatted drives.

This should come in handy for me (if it's stable), as I want to format my Win firewire drives with NTFS, read&write to them from my MacPro, and then share them with a production partner who edits on Windows machines.

Question - anyone out there use this yet? Is it stable? Any problems?!

I go the other way with Macdrive, that allows Windows to read and write to Mac OS formatted drives. It's totally seamless and works flawlessly.

Well its nice to hear but its not necessarily any better than MacDrive. If you use MacDrive then nobody that has a PC can see your HD except those who have it which sucks, but your Mac can read it. Now they have a program that allows Mac to read a PC partition but if your Mac doesn't have the program then they can't see it either.

Its a catch 22 lol.

A lot less of a catch-22 though, because ANY Mac or Windows system can read NTFS. Macs can't write to NTFS unless they use this utility, but they can all read it.

Not that way with MacDrive; with MacDrive no Windows system can even see the Mac OS drive unless they've installed MacDrive on that particular system.

MacDrive can be a little quirky, but it does just everything you need.

Unless you need to write something to a client's Windows NTFS drive (which happens to me quite often). And the last thing I want to do is tell someone they need to install something on their computer to be able to work with me.

How's this different from intel Macs? I read and write to the same harddrive and take it between my mac (FCP) and PC (After effects) all the time, no problems

Well, its a little cheaper for me to get a $30 program than it is to get a new mac.
:)

But you're right, as far as I know this shouldn't be an issue with intel macs.
But many, like me, are still livin in the old PPC G5 days.
On the PPC Macs, you can read NTFS drive, but you cannot write to them.
The only way to read/write to a crossplatform drive without the use of specific software on a PPC Mac is to format the drive as FAT32, which brings with it its own limitations so its usually not ideal.
