HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY GUYS. I'M SO HAPPY TO BE POSTING SOMETHING ON THE HVX SIDE OF THINGS. i'VE JUST ORDERED MY HVX TODAY. AND ALL READY I'M HAPPY ABOUT GETTIN IT. I KNOW ONCE I GET IT, I CAN START SHOOTING MUSIC VIDEOS AND SHORT FLIMS, i ALSO WONNA SHOOT HIGH END WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH THE CAMERA. i WANTED TO KNOW IF ANY BODIES OUT THERE SHOOTING WEDDINGS WITH THE HVX AND IF SO,CAN I CHECK OUT SOME OF THERE WORK.

The HVX is not a good camera to use for wedding videography, as yoiu can only shoot sd on tape or use a firestore. But even the firestore isn't any good for weddings because in HD it only lasts 3-4 hours. ON average I shoot 5-6 hours.

So you either shoot sd to tape, or wait for Siniarch to release his fs-forever firestore modification.

For weddings the ZU1, Canon A1 are much better bets.

The HVX200 is becoming a great events camera. With 2 16GB cards, you've allready got 2 hours of DV in camera (double the run-time of MiniDV cameras). 2 32GB cards puts you at 4 hours non-stop DV in camera (and more if you change cards somewhere .. even on the fly).

Most of these sort of things are going to be DVD productions anyway, for which DV is just fine. Going up to HD, 2 32GB cards will give you a full hour at full 100MBps DVCPRO-HD ... and 2 hours at 720/24pn.

Plus many other P2 benefits like Loop & Pre record (never miss a moment.) And if you can always keep the next empty card loaded inthe camera, you'll never get that horror of running out of tape at the wrong moment. - How often do you have to look at 20mins remaining on a MiniDV tape and have to decide if you should change now incase the next event or speach takes 25mins? *That* is where hot-swap recording really counts.

i'm shooting an HD hvx wedding the first of the year with another guy who is using a firestore. i have someone coming along just to offload cards. i'll probably bring my a1 for backup as well. we'll see how it goes.

THANKS GUYS. I'M GONNA DO MY BEST WITH THE CAM. i WAS LOOKING AT THE NEW SONY CAM ON TUES, THAT CAM IS HOT. IT LOOK REAL GOOD IN LOW LIGHT AND THE CARDS ISN'T THAT MUCH.

b boy; please don't type in all caps ... it's considered shouting (and not very polite) on the internet. Thanks.

Nobody shoots weddings in standard definition anymore. With the proliferation of Blu-Ray HD-DVD and Play Station 3 consoles all weddings have to be shot and delivered in high definition.

and yet, the clients dont want to pay for an HD package....

Oh please. The "proliferation"? Maybe 1/2 of 1% of US households have a high-def player. All weddings "have" to be shot and delivered in HD?

How 'bout we let the consumer decide that, instead of imperially decreeing it?

Yeah, I was just thinking about how most of my brides demand their wedding movies on blu-ray disc so they can play them on their "Play Station 3s."

Er, wait, I meant "none" of my brides. Phew! Your statement scared me, for a second I thought I had to throw out the dvx's since nobody shoots SD any more!

:cheesy:

I still shoot all my weddings in SD to tape. I'm ready for HD, but I haven't had a bride ask yet. Like Barry said, Grandma doesn't have a player yet.

I would say, there a couple options. I shoot Live events, A LOT. I dont do weddings. but this should apply. Now that being said. I shoot (direct capture) to MacBookPro. go as long as you want! For reception. I would take full advantage of the P2 cards. (which is what I do for my live events) IMHO

what modes are you shooting at while doing direct capture to a macbook? and are you using fcp to capture? i've got an HD wedding the first of the year and i was gonna just get someone to offload my cards for me during the ceremony but i've thought about doing direct capture as i'll probably be a stationary cam since the other shooter has a firestore.

It's not good. I could not match the 1080i on the other 2 Sony ZU1s. Plus the HVX LCD is horrible compared to the HD LCD on the Sony ZU1s. the 3 lux is not as good as the ZU1. The HVX auto focus is just too slow. Go with the Sony or the Canon. I love my camera but it's just not good for weddings.

How do you deal with issues of copyright on music on your wedding videos?

We've struggled with it, and haven't gotten any resolution. We don't do a lot of wedding, in fact, very few. But we uniformally turn down requests to include CD songs due to these issues.

Is this buy out stuff or your own recordings or what?

I use the HVX to shoot wedding s with, I also use it for corporate, the main sell was tapeless. I record mostly in DVCPRO50 in 16:9. Reason being is that non of my brides want the extra archive expense of HD, and the DVCPROHD files take too long to render a final out of. It is just simpler and faster for me to run it in SD, but I refuse to use dv mode, it just negates the benefits of this camera. I currently use the firestore for ceremony footage, and P2 for reception. I just bought a second HVX last month that will see some use in the upcoming wedding season. I currently dont have any HVX only stuff up on the web, because last season I did not have but the 1 camera, but this season will be different, 2 HVX's in multicam mode, my quality will blow away my competition.
