Companies selling $4,000 HVX's

Funny.. But I'm one of the lucky ones.. I got one 6 months after it came out from Broadway video for $4299..

I'm lucky too, I won mine off ebay from someone (Not a dealer) for $3950 shipped with 1 hour on the hour meter, I talmost got it for $3500 but I had a slight bidding war in the last 2 minutes. It came in the box will all of the accessories and paperwork, I know it could be grey market but It was a great deal. This was one about a month ago.

I have to admit that I was very nervous about it until I got the camera and tested it. I could not be more pleased now, after doing some research I decided not to go with the grey market dealers on ebay because they change the prices after you win the auction.

I got mine for $1,400, it hasn't shipped yet but it was on eBay and the dude was from Nigeria so I'm sure it takes more time to ship, but he says I'll get it in about 2 weeks.

lol, j/k ;)

what about these guys - $1500!
http://www.rainbowtronics.com/products.asp?product_id=13255#acc

ha!

but seriously - I bought one from them a long time ago, when everywhere else i called was on backorder and I need a camera in a bind. Though - it was like 2 months after the HVX shipped and I paid full price for it from them. It was a huge pain in the ass. But I got it!

For $1500 I dont care about a warranty or accessories - as long as the camera shows up and works for a couple of months I'd be happy.

Easy to say there in USA with price's like $5290 dollar connected to authorized dealer.
Here in Netherlands we talk about new price of HVX200 by authorized dealer $8799.
Lot of people will glad with a good anternative.

Let Panasonic do something about this rediculess difference between NTSC and PAL countries before they complain about gray market.
This diffrence is not only the tax difference but unfortunately the product price from Panasonic.

And a other thing is the globalisation is pushed trough the thoat of lot of countries .
We must became a one world with one big same market they told us so what is the problem there is no gray market exist. There is one world market that's good for every one tha's what the world political leaders say over and over again.
So let's go Panasonic make one price for the all world.....

Just for laughs I called RainbowTronics and asked about their $1549 deal on the HVX200, which they said they had in stock.

When I asked what it included, he said it was "just the camera body" (as if you can remove anything from an HVX's "body", like a lens) and when I specified I wanted all the pieces, including the battery, charger etc. the price jumped to $3750. Then I asked if it was "US spec" and he said that would cost $4195. Then my other phone rang, and I bailed.

So we never got to the bottom line, but I'll bet once he finished forcing me to buy a $400 extended warranty, a box of 3 DV tapes for $90 and so on, the deal would have been precious little less than the reputable folks would have charged.

And the resellerratings.com page is, quite predictably, about 98% "very dissatisfied", with a few "very satisfieds" sprinked in. Plants, one might think.

I bought my HVX last year from Full Compass, who have always proven to be excellent in every way.

Ted,

Thank you for doing that and confirming what everyone has been saying for years now.

This is exactly the reason why we are trying to spread awareness, warning folks not to buy gray market because they are going to get burned. If not right away, they will later when there is no support from Panasonic or from Authorized Service Centers when something happens to their camera.

I suggest everyone reads the FAQ.

Thanks again Ted.

yeah - they suck

rainbow - not full compass

When you guys put links up to the crummy sellers, you're helping them get traffic and helping them rank better in search engines. It's probably better not to link to the junk dealers and just mention them by name instead.

good point friend.

here's a quickie for discussion though - if you pay the $1500 and dont want any of the other crap - do you they have to send you the camera - or is there still room to get ripped off?

I would never consider it for my own - its definitely worth the money to pay for a sure thing from Spec Com or BH. Especially if you make a living as a shooter.

- but im looking for an hvx to destroy for a shot in a race - and i would feel better about loosing the $1500 from intentially putting it in a situation where it gets broken, than $5500.

thoughts?
suggestions?
alternates to destroying an hvx?

yeah :(. Im also looking for the hvx200 in the Netherlands but damn the price tag is so high here if you buy it from a authorized dealer. Why is that? Most of the time its 3000 dollar more money to buy it here then the price in the US.

They'll weasel their way out of it. All of a sudden the camera is not in stock, won't be for another six weeks, or you'll be told the camera ships next Monday and it never does. They will not take a financial bath for you.

i was on the phone with one of those clowns and that is exactly what they said to me, this was before i discovered this website. i had the money and everything but something just didn't seem right and i hung up and shopped around.

somebody should create a website that ranks just as high as the scam websites and expose them. i wonder how many guys spending their last dollar to get an HVX get ripped off.

This website ranks a lot better for most search terms than those websites, and no one here will tell you to buy a $1500 HVX. Some of the resposibility has to be caveat emptor. It would be nice if Google would stop advertising for them, though.

I had a friend who paid $1500 through the same company, with MUCH resistance from me. He still doesn't have his camera, but he's disputing the charges with the CC company. It was the same routine... and my poor friend called me up trying to convince me the HVX200 was not a fixed-lens camera. I think the tactic of companies like that is to muddy the water so bad you're not even sure what you ordered.

Do you actually need the cam to be recording, a la 'crash cam'? If not I've heard people talk on this board about a replica DVX which should be okay to stick in there.

Well, you can probably meet your needs well and help out a poor schlub who did some damage to their camera by finding and buying a broken HVX that meets your needs but isn't convenient for general use (broken viewfinder or LCD, broken firewire port, etc). You get what you need cheap, the guy/gal with the broken camera gets $$ towards a new camera.

With things like the firewire repair reportedly costing on the order of $1,000, I'm sure you could make this work out well.
