When is 32 gig P2 card coming out?

Anyone knows what the target date is? Shoudl I wait to buy my P2 cards unti it comes out? I am buying the camera within the next 7 to 10 days.

Panasonic stated by year's end.

If you need the cards now, get a couple of 16 GB cards.

You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many p2 cards

Expect 'em to be in short supply when they first come out; that's the way all the card launches have gone. I would say the first ones should hit sometime towards the end of November.

I FINALLY got my 2 16's yesterday. WOO HOO.

My dealer said November is the ship date for the 32's.

My 16 gigs were on back order for months, so who knows. It's retarded Panasonic makes such a rad camera, then can't fill orders on cards. I sure wish they were cheaper too. $900 a pop for the 16gb,..whoo wee. Beats renting them though, heaven knows I've probably spent over $900 bucks on rentals waiting for my order to come in.

Maybe with the new Sony on the horizon Panasonic will get their act together.

can we expect a dramatic drop in price on the 16gb's once the 32's come out? or just a discontinuation of the 16's?

My guess would be neither. 16 gig p2's are already less than 900...

I think the 32 gig cards are debuting somewhere around 1600 (I can't remember for sure).... so probably only a slight price drop if any.

I would expect the next noticeable shift in pricing to come with 64 gig cards, which rumor has it are not too far away either.

from what I remember there shouldn't be a drop... yea...

however that might be a small adjustment... just a tiny incentive from the retailers by making their pricing a touch more competitive if they have margin to work with... but no more than like $50 if this happened.

and again, yes, when the 64GB cards come out I also bet there will be an overall shift in the lineup...

Man! I can't wait!!! (3167th post of such comment)

Congrats on yer' P2 arrivals and orders!
(I haaaaaaate you :D)

Was at a P2 workflow clinic friday and the speaker mentioned $1300 for 32 Gig P2 card but he could have been mistaken... Hence my desire to wait until they come out...

Maybe I'll grab a 16G now and wait for 32G to come out to buy my second card. I am stretched money wise right now, so might have to wait for a third car purchase... I think I will shoot my scene, take a lunch break, download into portable drive while eating and then shoot some more... This is a DIY project so I can take my time if need be. At least for the first few scenes which are smaller and nonessential. Once I get 32G I can work longer before having to download...

You're always better off with two cards of half the capacity of a larger P2 card. You get the same total recording capacity, but gain the ability to hot-swap and offload one card while recording on the other. Two smaller cards also tend to be less expensive than one larger one.

Thoff, I know you *are* truly the man with all the answers, and you've answered things for me in the past for which I'm grateful, but I respectfully disagree here. At this point in time, used 8GB cards are going for $500-600 (with the odd 450 sale), and new 16GBs go for around 899 and sometimes cheaper.

So it's not cheaper to buy two lesser cards but I do agree it's much more efficient to own two 8s than one 16gb.

I was with some Panasonic company people last May and when they were asked about when the 32 cards were coming out, one said Thanksgiving. The other coughed and said that's probably more like Christmas.

We all know how hard it is to get the cards when they first come out so I wouldn't want to plan a project based on getting a 32gb at a certain time.

We also heard and I think it was posted here, they had no intentions of lowering the price on the 16gb card, which would keep that about the same price per gb. But it would be great if they did decide to release the 32 at a lower price point as the other poster reported.

You can never be too rich, that is true, because the more money you have the more you could buy. Eventually you get into the realm where small countries are in target ;) That's ideal. You just call up three or four African nations and ask to buy the corners of the countries, then put together your own nation from those corners, sort of carve up your territory. That's what I'd do if I were Bill Gates. You can't have ultimate power until you own a country. ;)

As for the P2 cards, a lot of equipment places are doing a poor job of keeping them in stock, yet others have plenty. I ordered two from B&H and still haven't received them, it's been a month already, and I have no idea when we will receive them. I don't particularly care because we have two and that's going to be sufficient for now, but we also have two HVX200s so at this rate if we try to do a two-camera shoot it's not going to be ideal. I'm just hoping the extra two cards arrive in the next 2-3 weeks.

Birns & Sawyer and B&H were sold out of them and said they were backordered, yet I went on eBay and found plenty of companies, including ones right here in the Los Angeles area, that had them in stock. I bought one from a place in North Hollywood, for instance. I got another from a company in Florida. They are out there if you search for them.

It is ridiculous to me Panasonic has so much trouble just producing an adequate number of cards. I probably won't buy any 32 gig cards. It just depends, basically my plan is to retire the HVX200s for our professional use by about late March or early April 2008, because we'll be using the RED One. But our rental company will take possession of the HVX200 packages and I think they will still rent out fairly well because it's a very good camera and costs a lot less than something like the RED, yet offers great video quality for music videos, commercials, etc. I think personally it's ill-advised to shoot a serious feature film with a camera as low budget as the HVX200, but I know there are people here who would disagree. It's a great camera but it's not competitive with 35mm film, so to me it's not a cinema camera. We want to be shooting on a cinema camera, i.e. the RED One.
