Got a DVX100 and I'm a Little Worried

Hey Guys,

I just got my DVX100b, it's my first pro cam. I bought it used and got a really good deal on it. The thing is, my momma told me if it's to good to be true it properly is.

When I brought it home I remembered that I didn't check the OIS. So I tried to check it. When I turned the camera off i hear a small clicking but no shake. Is there any other way for me to check the OIS?

Any thing else I should check for? What where some of the other major things you guys checked for when you bought your DVX?

That clunk sound you are hearing is a legendary question on this board. It's quite normal and nothing to be worried about. Every DVX displays the same thing.

Not sure how this relates to your OIS question though...
 
Aww, we could have had so much fun.

The "clunk" is the OIS assembly which is only engaged when the camera is in record mode and not off or in VTR mode. There is nothing for you to check about the OIS.
 
That clunk, as disjecta said, is probably the most asked question on this board, right along side with *in a high, Cub Scout like voice* "ahhhhhhh, excuse me? ahhhhh, how do you get good widescreen from the dvx?"

Its just the DVX warming up to kick some serious Canon arse:Drogar-Love(DBG)::Drogar-Evil(DBG):

The strange thing is that I hear something moving around in the camera when it is off and I pan it up or down. What could this be?

What are some of the other things I should check for?

Sounds like the main chassis has become unhinged. If you hear it moving around, you are totally screwed. You may also need a new (or used) flux capacitor replacement. You will be paying for repairs on this puppy for the rest of your natural life.

Yeah I heard something about some kind of temporal displacement thing that messes with the flux capacitor:-BlackEye(DBG.
 
Horse, you gonna finish that whiskey cuz it's Friday afternoon and the sun is over the yard arm and I'm thirsty.
 
they have already answered that question. when off, the ball inside the camera that is used for it's optical image stabilization is loose and wobbles around.

I got this camera for a good deal, and I'm just hoping the guy who sold it to me didn't sell me a lemon.

What are some of the things I need to check for, to make sure i didn't buy a bad dvx100b?

Well if the first thing you shoot with it doesn't win a festival award of some sort I'm pretty sure it could be a lemon.



Just make sure you change the oil regularly and the camera will be fine.... and I recommend against cleaning the lens with sand paper, though I may be the only one.

mine did that too i thought the shipping people dropped my box or something but i just got a servo control system and a new mass coupler from Watto's shop in Tatooine

good prices there
