Live greenscreen from uncompressed XH-A1

roxics

How do I set up a system where I can input the video from the Canon XH-A1 uncompressed at 4:2:2 into my recording computer and do a live greenscreen composite on the spot at the same time.

What kind of equipment and software would be required to do this kind of thing?

You need a hardware keyer .. and they are NOT cheap .. especially HD ones.

Is this the production key you are trying to do live, or just a referance key?

Roxics is it for a live output? If not you be better of capturing the component analog signal and just pulling your key in post.

The live keyers are damned expensive as Mikko said.

It's just for reference, something to show the client and test my lighting with.

How much is damned expensive?

What software do I use to do this stuff. Cna I use the Adobe suite? Can I use OnLocation CS3 for recording uncompressed out the camera in 4:2:2?
This is a shopping list I need to present my boss with for our new studio. So I need all the components and how they work. But I've never done this so I'm not sure what I need.

"damned expensive" for a live hardware HD chroma-keyer is many many times the cost of the camera. Easily over 10k.

A basic high quality SD keyer would be the UltimatteDV, and that's a nice round $3k

If all you are dooing is really a referance key, then pick up an old analog video mixer that has a chroma keyer and do your referance keys in SD with composite. It's plenty enough to match previs.

Then of course do your production key in software in post.
