New Imac's today!

Why I hate Apple/Mac:

Just take a look at the Dell. it's rigged up by an 80 year old and has a pile of stuff the iMac doesn't have:
  • Multi card reader (which btw comes standard in the box on all but the base model)
  • External speakers
  • at least one other off-screen usb device
  • 9 USB connections (iMac has 3)
  • full surround sound capability (iMac has headphone jack)
  • expandability
  • heaps of unnecessary cables
Furthermore they had to go to the Dell XPS line to find a computer where the price and the features match up. Meanwhile you can get pretty much any other computer with the same specs for several 100 less.

A few other things:
  • The reason why very few computer manufacturers build webcams into their screens is that if they break (which they do) replacing them is a major headache
  • There is a serious problem with heat dispersion in these imac things. Just think about it: a massive 20'' screen, motherboard, graphics card, processor and harddrive all jammed into a slim package. there is a reason why the G5s are still just as messy as that dell.
  • the mouse cable is too short
  • if your keyboard breaks or something goes wrong you can't get your CD out
  • the new keyboard looks like a million bucks but is probably as comfortable as typing on a cardboard box
I know I know... no mac vs. pc wars etc etc. but these are facts people. I hate Dell too but at least they don't blatantly lie about their competition to get ahead.

oh, and did I mention that the XPS 410 is being discontinued? so the comparison is between a new mac and an obsolete pc... riiight.

*not impressed*

Hell, the Imac looks MUCH cleaner than that rat nest of cables on the right.

We can still have all that stuff. We just won't have a tower to hide the cables behind. I'll resort to wire ties and duct tape thank you very much.

Do whatever you want, dude. I'm just referring to the "clean" look. If you're going to do anything useful in the sense that most here would want to use it for, you're not going to be that clean.

though i do love my PS3......... ITs seriosuly replacing my computer for internet stuff. i can toggle back and forth between Internet and "The Darkness" (sweetest game ever)

i didn't hear about until very early today (about 12 in the morning if it matters), but i heard the website was down at some point yesterday because so many people were looking at them. they look almost like the cinema displays to me.

Macs are prone to rats nets of cables too... Dont make me take pictures
(6 imacs at school, all are scary from behind.)

I'm gonna give the glossy screen a chance, if the colors are richer then itll be worth it, I also like the idea that , while ill still tell people to keep their fingers off my screen, i dont have to worry about scratching my mattedisplay when trying to get their oils off the screen.

Whiping it off just like my iPhone will be nice. Youd be suprised that even in the world of expensive video editing and all that other fun stuff, people still put their fingers on the screens as if it was a tube tv. Their finger prints are so gross :P

On a desktop setup glossy isn't too bad, but on a laptop that would be sooo annoying. I have a cheap pc laptop i use for P2 dumping, it's glossy and it's unbearable to use outdoors.

ya, glossy laptops , basically unusable, i never even considered it for any of my MBP's, it usually takes extra shipping time on the Matte finish from the Apple store, making wonder why Steve would say the customers love the glossy finishes, they are always in stock. :P

but it makes sense for the iMac, imo atleast, and no longer worrying about greasy fingers on my display = fun

Im diggin the new glossy screen, even in this super bright room with flou. lighting at my office. cant wait to get it back to my dungeonous apartment. :P
