P2 files from HVX to the Mac

I am using a Mac G5, OS 10.4.10, QT 7.2, plenty of RAM and HD space and FCP 5.0.4. I am using a firewire cable to connect the HVX to the G5. HVX is in MCR mode. Nothing happens. There is no icon on the desktop showing the HVX has mounted. When I launch FCP I get no recognition on the P2 card or the HVX when I use P2 Import in the browser window.

My card is a new 16GB and I have upgraded my camera and the card has several test clips on it already.

All I want to do is shoot on the card then transfer the clips to a folder on an internal HD for editing. Would also then like to use the computer to strip the P2 card clean. Please help.

The problem is that you're using FCP 5.04. Go to FCP 5.1.2 or above. If I remember correctly, FCP 5.04 has a very clumsy P2 ingest feature. It was with 5.1.2 that FCP started to have the better "import panasonic p2"feature with a nice log and capture screen.

If the HVX P2 card or the NO NAME transparent drive is not mounting, try going to "Disk Utility" and see if you can see the drive there. Click on the P2 card or NO NAME disk and select "Mount" on the top right corner of the screen.

Make sure to use firewire on the G5, since its USB integration is not very good.

Cam is set to "1394 DEVICE" When Disk Utility is launched there is no sign of the camera as "NO NMAE" or anything else.

Shouldn't it just mount up? Or, is there some driver I need? I downloaded the P2CMS program and no clips show in that either.

yes, i am having the same problem.

I have macpro, with fcp 6.

the p2 used to mount on to the comp just fine,
then when i tired up get some footage off a few day ago.
Nothing showed up. And it wouldn't reconise the hvx and p2 files.

and when i go to disk utility it freezes up. and after about 5 min,
also the hvx says p2 micron error some times.

so then i had to copy the files onto my notebook, then transfer the mxf back to the mac.

its starting to become a real pain.

I'm having issues with 1394 as well. I'm on a Mac Pro. The cards will mount on my computer but when I try to copy them over the transfer stops and I have to shut off the camera. I have tried to copy the footage to 3 different drives thinking something was wrong- that hasn't worked at all. I have all P2 drivers and viewers installed. I know the two cards (8gb) work fine because I have copied those to a P2Store and then to my Mac. On my old G5 this was never a problem. I must have something not set up right? Any ideas?

I have Mac Pro, OSX 10.4.10, 9gb ram (paired)
I have an internal drive with lots of space. I've also tried to copy the card to an external drive. Nothing is working. The card starts to copy but then freezes. I just hooked up the camera to another Mac and the card copied just fine. I'm re tracing my steps to see what could be wrong. I've tried different cables to make sure that wasn't the issue.

yes I tried that. I don't know what else to look at. I looked for updates and I'm pretty sure I have everything installed.
