P2 Genie - work flow issue

I just downloaded P2 genie to testing the work flow. When I hit the "eject & empty" button, the P2 card is erased but it is also not readable by my HPX-500 camera. I had to reformat the card again using the format function in the camera. Is reformatting the P2 card after every transfer the usual workflow? Thanks.

For starters, are you using the PC or Mac version of P2 Genie? Are your P2 drivers up-to-date?

I downloaded the mac version on my powerbook. I'm using 16gig P2 card. No problem transfering. Just the issue of having to reformat the card everytime after using the Genie. Is this the correct workflow for all Genie users?

We haven't tested this issue with the HPX-500 camera, but it's not an issue in the HVX200 at all. I'll pass your question on to Anders - the Mac developer.

Ill try to get my hands on a Hpx-500 and a 16 GB card to test. I hope to have some info about this within a few weeks.
You shouldnt have to reformat after emptying with P2 Genie.

One test you could do is to format the card in the camera and try to mount the empty card in your mac. What files does it contain when you browse it in the finder, if any?

I just tried recording on a HVX 200 on a 16 GB card & test it on my powerbook. I still experience the same issue. The card is unreadable on the HVX after I "empty & eject". Did I get any of the steps wrong?
i'll try the test as u have mentioned when I get back to office on monday

Unrelated to your issue, CK, I find that if I put a new ProjectName in the open field, P2Genie won't actually use the new name until I close the program and reopen it. Am I doing something wrong?

I already tried downloading the program again...

I've had the same problem. (Mac version)

Yes, I tried the test as stated. The files are "CONTENT" & "lastclip.text". as usual. When I "empty & eject" using P2genie, the P2 card is wiped clean. Thus, my camera can't read the P2 card.

Same problem with HVX200 not accepting a 16gb card formatted by P2 Genie. Transfer works with no problem, and P2 Genie formats the card with no error, but I have to reformat it in the HVX to be able to use it. I don't have this problem when using my 8gb card.

Using P2 Genie, PC version on Windows XP Pro.

Hey Folks,

i am not on 16GB yet, but it would be great to keep using the nice tool in future too...!

I was missing the announced PC-update anyway(as i have problems with the installation on vista, cause auf netscape-stuff..!) and would be pleased to hear about an upcoming update....Tony?!

Hi guys - I've been keeping busy since March when I quit my job and went freelance and became a father so I've had to prioritize my time in other directions than the further development of P2 Genie. I haven't been able to get my hands on 16 Gb cards yet so I've been unable to test this yet, but hopefully I'll be getting some more time to get the next version of P2 Genie for Windows out to all of you who are waiting for it. It will be very sweet - just wait and see :)

P2 Genie is basically just a backup program. It is 100% dependent on the Panasonic driver working flawlessly. I don't see why it should have issues with 16 Gb cards - or even any other size media. If it copies by drag'n'drop then P2 Genie will copy it too (it uses Windows XP kernel copying methods anyway...)

Well the problem is not the copying but rather the formatting that P2 Genie does. If you choose to not let P2 Genie format your card everything works just fine.

I'm having the same formating issue with the 16GB cards. After the P2 dump, I put the card back in the HVX200 and it shows up with an "E" for that slot.

I'm also using P2 Genie, PC version on Win XP Pro.

Sounds like Panasonic has changed something on the HVX firmware that is causing these problems. I'll see if I can get a hold of a 16 Gb card to test with.
