Load MXF files in Final Cut 6

I have an external disc with more than 500Gb of MXF files.

Last week I bought a MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio 2....Now I found that I can't load those files.......Is there any way for to do that? Must I convert it first to Quicktime movie? ....How? .......What is the best and quick workflow for that?

Thanks

Thanks Barry for your promptly answer. I know I need to read all Final Cut Manuals, but for now I had to let them in Miami because I had a big baggage full of things I bought...and as you know the FCS2 books weigths a LOT.... This time I just keep the dvd's......I will go for the user guides in 4 weeks...So meanwhile I have another question for you...if possible.....

I will edit in DV standard def, but near all material I have is in 1080 30p...In edius with f7 I can zoom over the footage for reframe....How can I do this do with FC6?...I promise this is my last question...by now :-)

thanks

You can do something similar in FCP, but you're asking an FCP-specific question so you'd be best served by asking that question in the FCP forum.

But with the Log & Transfer function, the file format (FAT32) still needs to be in tact... I'm pretty sure you can't just import an mxf into final cut though the log and transfer function...

Raylight for Mac can read bare MXF files. However it may not give you audio if it cannot find the audio MXFs (it does a limited search for them), and will not give you metadata if it cannot find the .xml files. But it gives you as much as it can. It does not require the full CONTENTS folder and does not require the lastclip file.
