Got a small job for somebody... any takers?

Hey raptor...

I have this website... but i don't know how to enable you to upload on it. If you know how to do that let me know. Other than that i'm trying to find some programs that allow direct connections between computers. Maybe something like limewire and just put the information in your shared folder?

Anywayz, I would love to increase the particles sizes of this stuff and just let it render for a week. You'll have to walk me through that.

-Hey Anhar. Maybe someday we can make enough money to pay for some server space so we can collaborate on this stuff. What's that cost? 50$ a month? (Insert laughter here.)

Oh well. Maybe next year. :)

/seriously I don't know what it costs to have 2gig server space. Anyone know?

There are plenty of web space providers that offer large amounts of storage/bandwidth for relatively little money. The three that seem to be the best in my recent hunt for a new host provider were:

www.1and1.com
www.dreamhost.com
www.bluehost.com

I went with 1and1.com and for $10/month I get 250GB storage and 2.5TG bandwidth, plus 3 free domain names and a lot of other stuff. They have cheaper plans as well, but that one seemed to be a good balance for me in terms of money spent and features received.

I've been following this thread and am impressed with what you guys have done in so little time. I can't do 1/1,000,000th what is going on here, but still enjoy seeing the process :)

Keep up the great work

Well I'm a little behind.

-Brock, I have a RF4 project folder and files zipped up that include the C4D tank model. So the settings are already set up.

In the folder is a Word doc called brock_read.doc that explains what to do.
Just the bare minimum to run the simulation that produces the files.
It's not a full blown tutorial by any means.

It's 202K so if you give me an email address I think I can send that as attachment. Then you can unzip it and with RF4 browse to the rf_brock folder and open rf_syringe.flw.

/I'll try and post the sim on youtube shortly.

As for accessing servers I use CuteFTP. I need a password and username to enter it.

-Larry thanks. That looks like an absolute bargain. I'll be looking into that for sure.

Hey Raptor!

Send your files to brock2621@alltel.net as well as jordanw24@gmail.com :)

I look forward to rendering some stuff! Thanks a bunch man! Hopefully we can get this one the way to being rendered over the weekend!

~Brock~

I sent the RF4 files to the first address. The C4D stuff will come later but will allow you to run the fluid sim and get those files done.

I forgot one important thing.
You need to set the RF4 preferences first.

File->Preferences[General]
and set these...

Axis Setup = YXZ(Lightwave,cinema4d)
Default scale = 0.01
Max.Frames = 250

Welp... it is rendering as we speak :) For cinema 4d do i need metal textures or anything? if so maybe we can send it over IM. I've sent a couple hundred megs over direct connecting with IM. It's fairly fast as well.

What IM again?
You don't need anything texture wise.

/I'm testing the C4D cam stuff. I have a new (interior) model. I have the rendering down to 3mins compared to 10 as before. That does not include the water. I'm running off some tests now.
I'll post some 320x480 samples but I can't get the cam where I want because for closeups I have to pump up the mesh resolution and then I run out of ram. So I have the keep the cam backed off a bit.

Instant Messenger (IM). You can direct connect with that. Hmm.. so can you just put the cam movements in the save (the close-up ones) and since i have 3 gbs of ram i could probably render it. I'm on frame 20 right now :)

Well you'll have to explain to me how to do that cause I've never used IM before. Send a PM if you want or post here.

/Or I can check it out tomorrow. I'm just going to run of a series of frames for every sec, 320x240, samples with a static cam here and post them. But I'll be shutting down after that until tomorrow.
I was thinking maybe I'll explain how to animate the cam in C4D. It's very easy. And also how to up the mesh res. Just a setting. All stuff you can do to customize the shot to your liking.

Here's a sample of the first four seconds taken at 1 second intervals with a static cam.

Let me know how the RF4 stuff goes. Check the 'preview' sub folder. If there's no images in there I'll tell you how to render those from the pre-rendered particale animations. Any problems let me know.

Hey Raptor,

I rendered that stuff last night. It took about 7 hours but it should be done. I saved it and didn't know what to do so i just turned my computer off before I went to work. I should be home later today but as far as i know it's rendered with 3.4 gigs of particles :)
