How much sales tax do you pay in America?

It's added on to the price they advertise right?
depends on the state( between 5 and 10%9, but applies only to the residents of that state. If you mailorder
let s say from B&H in New York and the package goes out of state ( New York state in this case) you don't pay any sales tax. If you order from outside the US no sales tax, but import tax and for instance in Germany customs and "added value tax" currently 16%...

I know I keep repeating myself *ggg* but the cam's official price is 6K and the street price in Germany is already down to 5258€.... and faaaaalling (before a single piece has been shipped, though).

Who cares about VAT???

What state charges 10.9%?

www.fideocam.de, as advertised in the Feb issue of Film & TV Kameramann. I know this company is in business for a long time but have never bought from them.

Uhm, their website is not really working which concerns me a bit. Their fax number is +49 - 89 - 65 12 95 - 12. Email info@fideocam.de. If you contact them, refer to the printed ad in the magazine mentioned above.

Fideocam is ok - I have done business with them thanks for the hint - I am a subcriber to the Kameramann but missed the ad.

Just had a phone call with Fideocam. The HVX200 will arrive end of march and the price is 5,258.00 Euro plus 16 percent VAT. This seems to be the best deal for German customers at the moment.

canada has 14% tax sux buyin stuff here

You can save half of the tax buy buying from another province in Canada.

For instance, I live in BC, and by buying by mail from Toronto, I save on the PST, which reduces the taxes by half.

...and for Swiss customers, who will recieve the 16% German VAT back and pay 6,5% Swiss VAT at the customs... so for Swiss customers, the camera will cost 5'599 Euro inculding all taxes! - That's almost bargain... and 1000 Euro less than the Swiss list-price. But let's see how the prices will develop until summer, when the street prices will start calming down.

I usually have things ordered to an adress in Germany 50 meters from the German customs, then I just go by bike (10 minutes) to pick them up and carry them through the customs with the VAT-form.

Hey, Guys,

This is my first post, haven't received my HVX as yet, and I'm a nuggy to serious video, lots of serious still work and screenwriting though. I thought I might add something of value to this string since i just returned from Europe several weeks ago.

The euro costs about $1.18 US dollars, so a 6000 euro camera will cost $ 7080 US, and a 5000 euro unit would cost you $5900 US, at least. The exchange rate fluctuates, and with a weak dollar it could get worse. Besides, isn't Europe all on the PAL format, not NTSC like we use in North America? It seems to me a camera sold from Germany will be PAL and of little or no use here, and won't do 24p as the PAL version stands today.

Another issue is shipping from Europe and import duties for goods shipped to the US. I know when you return to the US you're allowed $1100 of foreign goods upon return. Cameras sold in the US have a price that includes such import duties. One might expect to find a hefty import tariff would be slapped on anything of considerable value being imported into the US from Germany, regardless of where it was manufactured overseas.

I doubt any foreign dealer would be collecting US taxes, even Amazon seldom includes taxes in your total cost. Has something to do with your individual state laws and/or whether the company you're buying from has a presence in the state they're shipping to. I know that anything I purchased in Europe had their taxes already included in the price, though a dealer might be able to deduct that for merchandise leaving Europe (such was the case for an item I purchased from a video dealer in Munich).

I'm waiting for HVX from AVS, won't be till next month, but it's still the best price I've seen so far.

Thanks guys. I've learned a bundle from this group and hope to contribute something of value in the future.

Carey
