Final Cut Studio 2.0 - P2 import problems

Whenever Apple issues a software update (and 10.4.10 is due any day now), I go to Apple's woeb site under downloads and look for the combo updater. I download that .dmg and then run my updates from that file. Then, repair permissions and reboot again.

It is just a very sound update procedure, I think. I learned this one from far greater minds than mine.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!

It seems we found the problem! Our LASTCLIP.TXT file was corrupted. For the hundredth time I was running tests on the clip set we always had. I decided to delete what was there, and re-copy the clips from the firestore. After mounting the firestore drive, I had both windows open side by side. I noticed the LASTCLIP.TXT file was a different size on the mac than it was on the firestore. Rather than delete all the clips and recopy them, I decided to just copy over the LASTCLIP.TXT file.

Started up FCP 6 and loaded up the Log and Transfer window.. clips were all there like they've always been. Dragged one down into the ingest window.... and for the first time since getting the new Final Cut update... it ingested!!! My heart leapt! Gingerly, I dragged down another... then another... they all ingested...

Ahhh.. the beauty of it all. The sun seems to have shone brighter today than it has in two weeks - or maybe it was just that tropical depression ;)

At any rate.. we seem to be good. Thank you to everyone who tried to help - its great to see such a great community willing to lend a hand.

One way of avoiding corruption during Finder copies (whether from Firestore or P2 cards) is to use FCP's Disk Utility to create an image of the card or Firestore. We had discussed this methodology some months ago. It does seem much more dependable.

Anyway, glad you solved the problem because, as David and I and several others have noted, FCP 6 seems very solid so far when it comes to P2 import.

For what it's worth, I've also gotten the red exclamation mark and then figured out that it was because my clip name was too long. At least when I shortened it in the Log and Transfer window it would then import.

One other issue though, whenever I "Log and Transfer" (from camera, DuelAdapter, or HDD) and close the window, FCP will not play sound from the timeline. If I close FC and open again, all is good. Anyone else see this? I'm on a new 17" MBP with FCS 2.
 
I have just experienced a similar problem with some p2 cards I had copied to one of my external hard drives. Some clips would copy across, others would report with Error Unknown and display the lovely little red exclamation mark.

After numerous re-installs and trying different versions my problem stemmed from the location of the files. The P2 card folders and my capture scratch drive were the same location. When I copied the P2 card folders to another drive, they imported perfectly.

Seems there may be some bug where if the cards are stored on the same drive as your capture scratch location it will crap out. Copy them somewhere else, happy days! Well, in my case anyway. . .hope this helps :)

**UPDATE** Ok, so it worked for one card, not all of them. Back to the same issue even though the cards are now stored on another drive. Any takers?

**UPDATE AGAIN** Retried and it worked. I'm stumped as to what's causing it though.

I had a problem with an exsclamation mark when importing log and transfer. I saw every P2 card on my HDD (panansonic) in FCP but one clip I couldn't import. I worried for a couple of hours when I found out that it had to do with a card that I forgot to take out the HDD. so tip is to dump everything on HDD before log and transfer and get the card out of the HDD
