Celeste HD-DVD Bonus Feature "BLOOPER REEL"

I'm currently working on an HD-DVD version of my film The Last Son of Celeste and I wanted to share one of the bonus features! The blooper reel! It's a good way to have some laughs and see some rough uncolorcorrected footage.

Marlon i am really curious to know. I don't think anyone asked this in any of your previous threads, and if they did i apologize but i have been following and i was curious about something.

Lord of the Rings has probably changed my life in many ways as an actor and a filmmaker, so i say it with the utmost of respect when i compare your Map with that of mister Tolken. But how in God's name does one create something like that? Who draws it? Is it hand drawn and then scanned at high res to use and manipulate how one wants? Is it 3D? does one do this in after effects? Please enlighten me :)
 
Seriously huh... good lighting, good camera setup = good looking footage.

Hey Marlon, did you enter anything for "On The Lot"? You should be on that show is all I know. You could give Marty and Zach a run for their money.

On the Lot is a joke... It's a popularity contest not really a skill competition... That guy that got sent packing today I would hire ten times over that other chick... He would be first in line for anything over that chick... Even if I needed someone to move Apple boxes I would hire him... I'm ready to boycott the show...

I would love to see the actual vote count for it... I bet it would be pretty low... It seems that anytime the judges are like "That's crap..." America jumps in for sympathy votes....
 
I dunno...but yesterday I watched a movie called "TEENAGE CAVEMAN" directed by Larry Clark, and some scenes just reminded me "The Last Son of Celeste", in particular outside scenes...maybe in USA this movie is famous...? On the tv magazine was indicated as "TV-movie" not a "cinema movie"...but I found it very outrageous to be a "tv movie product"...but if someone has producted it for tv entertaining he got courage! The movie has very strange photography and it seems they didn't use any dof tecnique, it's all in focus like 1/3 cameras, generally I understand if a movie is a "tv movie" for the lack of dof characteristics and photography...this movie seems shot on Canon!
 
I've watched this movie once and for some reason it reminds me of the movie THE FOUNTAIN with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weltz. I think is the mix between real world and world created by Weltz character from her book The fountain.

BTW loved the music from the fountain.

so when someone does something like that in photoshop, what resolution does one start out at? I just cant picture painting something like that from nothing. giving it that old texture old map feel and having enough detail to come in close to the map to see almost what resembles bits of faded ink.

It was painted at 2k resolution. The map texture was created with one of photoshops prebuilt textures and and altered so it would resemble old paper. It looks like faded ink because the photoshop brush strokes used were to emulate fading ink :)
 
Marlon, I'll assume you're working off a tablet then. Which do you use, and how do you find it?

I've been looking at the Wacom Intuos 3 (6x8) which I can get with a student discount for AUD$339, I've heard it's got a much better feel than the much cheaper Graphire models. Do you know anything about the Wacom units?
 
I use the cheapo Graphire, the smallest one too. Again, the tablet is just the tool. Having a more expensive wacom table doesn't make you a better artist. It has all the bells and whistles that'll probably make you more efficient but it won't make your artwork all that better.
 
Marlon, if you don't mind me asking, what program and HD-DVD drive are you using to author an HD-DVD of The Last Son of Celeste? (Which I though was a great little film by the way. You should write a feature version since the fantasy world you created seems so richly detailed.)

I am asking because I am looking into a Mac and Final Cut Studio 2 for the near future, and as far as I understand, Apple doesn't want to support HD-DVD, only Blu-ray.

DVD Studio Pro lets you author HD-DVD on to 4.7gb DVDs as long as its less than 30 minutes. They work on set top DVD players.

Cool. I was only asking since I haven't found any info on authoring to a full HD-DVD on the Mac yet.

I assume you're going to be selling a DVD/HD-DVD of Last Son of Celeste soon?
 
If you author to 720p HD-DVD you can get closer to an hour on a 4.7 gb DVD. I've authored both 1080i and 720p onto standard DVD-R's that play on the Toshiba and X-BOX 360. (with HD DVD module) Pretty cool to be able to author HD on discs that cost less than a dollar.

Go HD DVD! Stick it to Sony! ;)
 
even uncorrected footage looks very nice! :thumbup: very good work, marlon.
can you please share your camera preset or do you want to keep it secret?
