Diablo Dimes video - new cut

****. thta video was extremely well shot. The CC, the lighting, the framing, the mood, perfection.

how did ya get johnny depp to do a little music video tho? and please tell us about the equipment u used from lighting to camera settings to gear. looks really good!

Oddly enough this is the last music video we will shoot with the dvx. We recently shot one on 16 and there is still no comparison how nice film looks, especially for the skin tones.
For this vid tho, we had one 2k to bring up the general area, then used a few 650's sprinkled around for some hot spots. It was a fun shoot just three guys out at a friends backyard on the indian reservation...

We had a basic doorway dolly on some tracks, camera settings were pretty much standard 48 shutter. Color correction was done in final cut, crush the blacks, juice the highlights, warm it up a little, desaturate it a little.

And yeah he gets the Johnny Depp thing every single time, no exception. lol!
 
If I can remember what the original looked like, I think I liked the cutting on that one better. This one was fine, but the old footage seemed to out of place and I kept wondering what they were doing there. That mixed with some of the footage backwards just seem to not flow right.

However, the lighting looked great. That's something I focus on. The second I see bad lighting, I just turn it off, but I didn't have to do that with this one.

Great work, and I love that song.

hey franck, i actually dont like this cut. the original was much better, i think it has to do with the CC that u added to the new one. I liked the rich colors of the original. The archival footage was fine just the CC in my opinion was lacking and actually took away from the video.

I did buy the diablo cd and its awesome btw! He was also on miami ink lol!

The lights are all Mole Richardson. It's their classic 650 kit, as well as a 2k mighty mole. http://www.mole.com/
We did this cut as a sort of bonus, since Diablo got a lot of exposure on Miami Ink. So while we're in pre-production for another Diablo video (actually film, since we'll be shooting on Super16), we gave his new audience a little filler.
For CC I didn't like the original one, I mean it was fine, but the skin tones were just way too pink.

I think I saw this guy on TV yesterday he was trying to get a Gypsy tattoo. Can anybody confirm or Deny this ?

lol..yah thats him silver wolf the miami ink marathon is on the telly or was on the telly..

Considering that i didnt see the full screen video on tV i cant say if it was too pink but looing at it form the pc it looked fine. Art is subjective, thats what makes it great. I cant wait to see the 16mm version, going with the old footage will probably be great idea! :D
 
I liked the lighting too. He reminded me of Capt. Jack S. from Pirates of The Caribbean.

I don't understand why does he call himself Diablo, is that his real name? thats creepy, it means devil-satan.
 
When you meet Diablo, or see one of his live performances you'll find that he's a real blast from the past, like someone had turned back the clocks 70 years, hence why the footage is going backwards... But other than that no real reason. ;)

That's cool. I was just wondering what the motivation was. He seems like a really cool guy and I think I'm going to get his CD, I love that music.
 
His cd is in backorder right now. He got a lot of exposure off Miami Ink and things are picking up for him. If you're familiar with his cd, we'll shoot "Raining Wine On Sunday" as his next 'video', on super16.
If anyone out here gets to catch one of his live performances, he's a show all into himself. He used to do one-man band shows, where he plays the kick drum, guitar, harmonica, kazoo (what? how you spell that?!) all at once, rocking out madly. He deserves to be seen, this guy lives for the music.

A quick question about the video: Is there some sort of sybolism? Particular with him reading the Bible? And the part where he is wandering around the tree, pouring the wine...lying near the tree? Is that a hat I see? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Sorry but there is no symbolism in the video. The thruth is we shot the video in a 100 % improvisational manner. Diablo was leaving to NY and we had to shoot something. So we got our lights together. And me and two friends went to our good friend Chandu who lives on the Indian reservation over here in the mountains east of San Diego. He has this old cabin in his backyard full of junk. In it was an old Indian bible which we used cause it looked cool.
Him dancing around the tree, preaching the bible there is no meaning what so ever. We thought it was fun for Diablo to be a preacher.
So we just rolled with whatever we could find in the backyard. The rusted bath tub was a must....... hey maybe he's having his baptism in there. Hmmm I start to see symbolism everywhere now.. lol.

hey but you're right, now that I look at it, there is some sort of hat laying in the grass at the bottom of the tree... hahah that's cool. It's like a grave or something...
That's it, he's pouring wine on his old friends grave.
