16 GB P2 cards not recogized

  1. Yesterday I got my two 16GB P2 cards. First trial was to download it to a PC via firewire, but the computer didnt recognized the cards. (In the explorer yes but not in the P“ select of EDIUS broadcast)With USB it worked.
Next trial was to download the cards via PCMCIA card slot on my laptop. The P2 driver has been installed a few weeks ago, but the cards was not recogonized.
While installing the P2 driver you will be asked for P2 cards in the slots, but he didnt recognized the cards, otherwise the driver seemed to be installed. Now I am confused, I thought its so easy to download the cards via PCMCIA. What do you think? Can the reason be the 16GB? I have no 8 GB or 4 GB to try it.
I have no idea

  1. Panasonic does not support Firewire connections to the camera in MCR mode.
  2. Update the camera firmware if you haven't done so yet.
  3. Install the latest P2 Drivers on your PC, select all the devices you wish to install support for from the list of checkboxes, and then have P2 cards ready because you'll be asked to insert them during the installation.

THoff, you're awesome. You're always there to help the users. Thanks for all you do!

(but if I may, let me point out a slight correction to avoid confusion among Mac readers: Panasonic doesn't support using the firewire device mode IN WINDOWS. Panasonic does support that when going to MacOS, but in Windows you have to use USB.)

Hello Thoff,
I updated the camera firmware, because if not, you cant use 16GB
I am quite sure that I followed the desciripted way and the P2 cards was in the PCMCIA slot while installing the driver. I pulled them out, pushed them in, out, in,
but no succes. I deinstall the driver and install him again. No succes.
As I told: HVX connected via USB and EDIUS Broadcast works well. But you can imagine, how important it could be to download via PCMCIA.
Maybe you have an other idea. But thanks so far for your help.
Oh, I should look, if there is a newer driver.

Actually, I tried updating item #1 to point out that this was specific to the PC just after I posted, but despite repeated attempts to do so, I could not and gave up.

Clicking on the "Save" button of the editor didn't work -- I kept getting an "Error on page" status message in IE 7.

I've also experienced the inability to modify a post.

Land indicated that they moved to new servers today, so that may account for no way to modify.

I'm proud to say I borrowed his Wide-Angle lens and I've met him in real life; tremble with jealousy.

To the OP--

Did you get the 16gb's working? I want to order one soon.

I want that bumper sticker. "Tremble with Jealousy" would be a great campaign tag - for anyone.

How about ----- Gore '08 - Tremble with Jealousy

as a side note. Does anyone know what is up with the 16gb card shipments. After Panasonic announced them just prior to NAB i checked B and H everyday for availability. I preordered the first day they offered it... and alas I have not seen hide nor hair of the 16gb P2 card. Though my credit card has seen the charges!!

So: I downloaded the new driver and everything works finenow. Panasonic improved the procedure,so that is easy to install, but you have to deinstall the old P2 driver first. (Or the installer will do it for you, than restart and install again) And, as Thoff wrote , have the P2 cards ready, you will be asked for it.
Thats it.
Two 16GB makes me much more free! One hour recording time in 720PN.
20 Minutes longer than my old DVCAM tapes! I dont like to twiddle around with F100. That is the beginning of "better times". How must it be with two 128Gbs???

I got my two 16GB here in Germany three days ago. Usually they are faster in the USA. Probably because we had have the G8 Meeting here?

Received my two 16's from B&H today. I had to pay in advance to backorder with them right after NAB, so your mileage may vary trying to order them now. I did my firmware upgrade via the SD card, as per the instructions located here:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft_agree_e.htm

You want this instruction guide pdf:

AG-HVX200/P,E,MC 4.05 Operation Manual

and of course the 4.05 driver itself, which the manual above will help you to load onto the SD card correctly.

Please note this is a fussy process! The "Operation Manual" gives concise instructions regarding installation of the firmware update via the SD card. I followed it to the letter and it worked for me- but I sure wouldn't have wanted to GUESS how the procedure worked! Instructions definitely required.

Best of luck with it. I'm thrilled to have access to 80 minutes of uninterrupted shooting time in 720pn, how cool is that! The day we've all been waiting for... so far, so good. The cards are acting as they should...

One hour on 720pn? I thought it was only 40 minutes.

Woops! My fault, I misread that you will be using 2 16gb cards, which will be 80 minutes.

How do you UN-install the p2 driver on a Mac?... I know he's using a PC.. but i was wondering if you were to update your driver for mac, would you just install the new driver over the old one? or is there a way to uninstall the p2 or duel systems driver...?
