"On The Lot" tonight

I dont think michael bay is a hack at all. My opinion of him is changing by the minute. Just watched The island again. im starting to think hes a savant. How else can you make such a beautiful movie, out of nothing....... its kinda brilliant if you think about it.....

The Island is an unauthorized remake of a 1979 low budget sci-fi called The Clonus Horror, check out this article (this is my favorite site by the way):

Dreamworks actually just settled with the Clonus director for a seven figure sum (another article on the site) over this. I have to say I was surprised to see the character driven beginning on The Island, but then it gets to the second half and I say, "oh, feels just like a Michael Bay movie."

I wish they made a better reality show. Something like the style of America's Next Top Model. Have Spielberg actually being the main man on the show to give it credibility, and make sure no one on the show is going to be afraid to be a hard-ass.

Take away viewer voting and replace it with judges voting.

Give them tasks, like "shoot this scene" with a twist. Or like they were doing "make a film in 5 days". The "pitch" from the first episode should have been a small challenge. They should judge them on how they interact with the crew, how fast they get things done, how good of a technical and acting director they are, etc...

And for fraks sakes, get some talented hard-ass judges.

haha zach. I definitely dislike Michael Bay. But enough to take the time to write a song about how much he sucks? Even I'm not that bad.

Welll.... maybe I am.

I checked my Tivo and "On The Lot" is actually scheduled to air tomorrow. This may be the On The Lot swan song so let's take this time to post our favorite memories of On The Lot.

My favorite memory is when they told us about next week's crazy episode where the contestants had just one hour to shoot a movie on location.... AND THEN THEY NEVER SHOWED IT.

Oh... good times.

pearl harbour sucks... and i miss you.

if you don't throw in your buck o' five who will? ooooooooh buck o' five.... freedom costs a' buck o' fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvvve.

So now when you're a studio and you have some big summer film to make, you look down the list of directors and you say, "screw all those artistic guys. They're going to weird my movie up" and that leaves you with like 6 competant directors who you know can handle a big set and will give you a good trailer. Hence Michael Bay gets work.

Sounds like a ringing endorsement for Michael Bay. Studios love confident directors, even if they are egotistical or arrogant. You'd have to be to survive in Hollywood. And he makes them money.. that's what is most important anyway.

If he wanted to make artistic films, all the power to him. Sorry, but I don't understand "your hate" towards him.

...I dont understand...Isn't film an art form? Shouldn't he be making artistic films? To real filmmakers "artistic films" is redundant. What your admitting is that he is just a walking paycheck....and validating that by suggesting thats whats most important. People hate him because he's not true to the art form we all have come to love, and is a large reason for why the business is in the state that it's in. The classics are gone, and we're in a tough new era where the most revered individuals are Michael Bay, James Cameron and with movies like "Bratz: the movie" and "300" (please lets not get into a "300" debate, im waaay too tired--you get my point).

Believe it or not it takes a certain amount of talent to stage action sequences and Michael Bay does have an eye for this stuff. There's different facets to each film, and MB just happens to prefer style over substance. It's debatable whether this is a good approach but it's hard to say that he's not an "artist" in his own way.

...isn't the island a spin-off remake of Logan's Run from the 70's?

We shall see what the favorite Zack has in store tonight. Hopefully crazy cab idiot will get exposed and booted off.

So the one that gets the most votes is the best, according to you?

I look forward to your reaction if the Indian film doesn't take the prize.
thats not what he's saying at all (and you know it.), he's just illustrating that he isn't alone in his admiration for the girl's doc. I didn't think her fshort was particularly good. but relative to the other garbage, her's was operating at a much higher level. it was polished, professional, and had an assured, signature style. the content left a bit to be desired, but not any more than the other five. my 2¢.

so we are just going to be able to watch like four of the contestants tonight right?

it's only an hour long.......and with them adding the BS suspense by cutting to a commercial before every announcement i'll be sure to record this and watch it after its gone off.
