What will this weeks web doc be about? I cant wait for it Alex good job

Did you see the color correction comparison one yet? I have some goddies for you guys in the coming weeks. BTW, here are some early reviews for "Cyn":

"Cyn is what GRINDHOUSE should've been!!!"
- Entertainment Insiders

Visually, Cyn is utterly dazzling...I was in awe by the sheer visual luster of the film."
- Cinema Crazed

"Cyn," above all else, is ultra-hip, sexy & dangerous!"
- Guerilladephia Entertainment News

What do you guys think??

Seems very pulpy.. what's the story anyway? I can't find a story synopsis anywhee on the site...

Here you go: A quick synopsis: "Cyn is a twisted tale by writer/director Alex Ferrari about Cynthia, a young woman who is taken away by two psychopaths (Mr. Sugar and Otto) in the middle of the night to an old abandoned kindergarden. Cyn quickly turns the tables on them and soon the night becomes a cat and mouse mind game. While this drama is unfolding a lone figure watches from a close circuit monitor. Who is Cynthia and what the hell is going on in this twisted tale?"

So when will there be news on where we could see the entire short film or better yet purchase it

You guys ROCK! I've been bombarded with private messages and emails about the possible DVD release of Cyn. Well I think what we are palnning to do is "possibly" release the short alone with maybe some web docs and a few commentary tracks. IT WILL BE NOTHING LIKE THE BROKEN DVD :) The BROKEN dvd took months to put together and my team and I are preping my next project "Red Princess Blues" and I really want to focus all my energy on that. The Cyn release will be much cheaper than BROKEN as well. I'll keep you all updated.

Thanks so much for the support guys. It really means a lot. :dankk2:

BTW, keep an eye out for more web docs this week. I'll be updating them every week.

When is the short going to be viewable?
Soon man soon...

Hey Guys,

I've been getting a ton of private message about our new artbook called "The Art of BROKEN." Well it is finally available for purchase. It is selling for $29.99 (I know it is a bit pricey but that is the cost of self-publishing, we are not making much on the book at all, it's done mostly for you guys) Here is a bit about the book:

artofbroken_sales.jpg

A hefty 114 page artbook that illustrates the long pre-production and production process that artist Dan Cregan, Ken Robkin and director Alex Ferrari went through creating the world of BROKEN. This tribute showcases conceptual art, character designs, on-set photos, full short film screenplay, and visual effect breakdowns.

This book will whet the appetite of any BROKEN enthusiast with never before released artwork from the feature film version. This pictorial feast is a must-have for any indie filmmaker, art connoisseur, or film fan. It is proof that an indie film can be taken to a higher level.

Available for purchase at: http://www.deviant-comics.com

Thanks again for all the support. More web docs on Cyn are coming.:dankk2:

Alex, very impressive, the book looks amazing. I'm a bit behind on the whole BROKEN thing so i'll be ordering the DVD and book soon. I love the time and care you've put into all this, its very much along the lines of what i'll be doing for my own projects so i really appreciate your style and approach.

Not bad!

Not bad!

Hey Alex its good to see someone following their dream. I think forums are good and bad because you never now the level of people that are giving advice or compliments for that matter. As for your movie it reminds me alot of Hostel, Saw and Tourista, with a spice of terminator thrown in? I thought I saw some robot type dude in the trailer maybe Im wrong.
With Hostel 2 failing badly a the box office I think we have gotten our fill of movies that have a lot of violence / torture in a confined location and throw in some cool graphic effects that mask the fact that their is nothing original and recently they arn't good scripts as well, combined with B-list actors for the most part.
For your next film I would suggest you use a film lens adapter to achieve what it seems you were trying to do with your film. I saw you used the Natress filters which has a Comic book filter and give you that look. The ? you have alot in your responses, to affect good footage or not. Well its always a personal thing and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Id like to see what you can do with a good film lens adapter and some lens I think it would give your work more depth and make it look more professional and less like video. I have supplied a link to some footage we shot with the DVX 100 and an adapter and when used correctly looks more like film than the HVX, which I actually own as well. I will also link footage from a great trailer that used the film lens adapter and you can see how much more powerful of a picture it makes. Keep in mind both of these examples were shot with Home depot work lights and one 500 watt softbox.
Enjoy

moviemayker, question, (sorry, not trying to hijack this thread): beautiful footage, what lens adapter did you use? the link you posted didnt work on my mac. i was leaning towards the brevis but it seems like all lens adapter footage has vingetting. yours doesnt.

uhm ... I betcha Alex knows what a 35mm adapter can do for you.

As for DVX+35mm looing more like film than HVX + 35mm adaptor looking more like film? Uhm ... no. Same gamma, better color space, more resolution (like film). That statement makes no sense. But again, same cine like gamma in the DVX and HVX.

There are lots of examples of film like work with the HVX, as film like or more than the DVX. Unless you think less resolution, poorer color space, and more compression = filmlike. But iff you want to see any of those HVX examples, PM me. Good manners prohibits me from posting a bunch of links to my own work and others in someone else's thread. I almost did since it would be in rebuttal to you, and not to "show Alex how he's doing it wrong". But still, no. PM me of you want examples.

Lens adaptor

Lens adaptor

Yeah as Im sure everyone wants to know an its called the Letus 35 and also we have used the Red Rock micro which tends to be more expensive and harder to work with. I think Ramon and I have a certain style of shooting which is kinda like what Alaex was doing. I think Alex could benifit from getting the letus adapter and a fixed 50 mm and 80 mm lens. These are photo lenses too which you can find on ebay.
This is the latest video which won the Papa Roach contest, not the best from Ramon, but they loved it I guess.
Enjoy

No offense Jack D but!

No offense Jack D but!

You failed to read the sentence correctly, I clearly said dvx 100 and the adapter looks better than the HVX. Now if I would have said the dvx 100 and the adapter looks better than the HVX and the adapter, then of course you would have been right.
But as you can see you read it wrong.
No big deal reading is tough these days even i have problems sometime. As for the HVX and the Lens adapter trust me I know I own one and shoot a lot with it and its a no brianer DV is not HD. But as I said before if your on a tight budget to no budget you can make dv appear to look like film. It all depends on how good your shooter is and who your shooting for.

Looks visually awesome as always.

You guys do an exceptional job with the visually look of your movies and a brilliant job with marketing execution. The write-ups, the bonus features, the posters, the web docs, the website, etc. Seriously top-notch.

My only complaint is that I just don't feel the stories or characters are really strong enough. I think the story was my least favorite part of Broken and looks to be the same here. I don't know, I guess they just don't really do it for me. IMHO, I just don't think they are very strong scripts.

It depends on what you are going for, though. For me, a good script with character development wins out over action and VFX. But you guys are really talented at the latter.

No offense taken, and I considered you meant that, but it seemed to me you would have been more specific and said something like "the DVX with a 35mm adapter is more filmic than the HVX without one" when you just say "the DVX with a 35mm adapter is more filmmc than the HVX ..." you kind of left it open. Seemed like you didn't finish your thought.

At anyrate, I agree with you for the most part, but look at the first place Spyfest film No Middle Ground for a filmmic look without a 35mm adapter. I think my flm Shed, shot with the anamorphic on a DVX is fairly filmmic as well.

I just think Alex is getting the look he wants and would use a 35mm adapter if he wanted to ... even if you do have more links to post :)
