DualAdapter OS X 10.4.9 Beta driver posted

Installing now. I couldn't get the Cynic solution to work on my MBP, so we'll se how this goes...

**UPDATE** Installed driver and rebooted, inserted adapter and waited... no go. "this computer does not appear to have any PCI cards installed" Maybe I'll call them this week.

Still can't get this thing to work.
Installed the driver, re-booted, repaired permisions, another re-boot. The actual adapter shows up in the system profiler, but the P2 card is not recognised...

Cynics driver didn't work for me either.

MBP 17", 2.16 core duo, 2GB sdram,

I'm not sure what I did differently but i am using a MBP and used cynic's driver and it all works fine. I can plug it in and un-plug it and switch cards and it works fast and flawless. If you need any specific information, just let me know. believe me, I am no programmer, I just installed all the drivers from panasonic and cynic and voila.

Have you downloded the AJ-PCD20 in the same time ? You need it.

Ok so standing on my head, rubbing my dogs belly while listening to the rolling stones backwards... hasn't helped.

Here is an idea---> (I know that this is a beta driver, but) Get it right before you release it, take my money, and charge me up the arse for delivery. A delivery that was botched I might add.

The rest I have self edited, for the safety of the more sensitive.

HeavyG I feel your pain... I've been having just as much trouble, the only way I've gotten it to work has been after installing a clean version of 10.4.8 on an external drive, not installing any updates or other programs.

Did you try repairing your permissions?

Update: So I decide to take my own advice after I remembered that I didn't repair my permissions after installing the lastes driver from Duel. I repaired permissions, nothing needed repaired, but I thought I'd try the adapter anyhow. I stick it in and noticed right away that the card icon showed up. Sweet! I slid a P2 card in and nothing happens. I remove the P2 card, remove the adapter and reinsert. Wait... insert P2 card and it mounts! HOORAY!!! Next I open P2 Genie and dump a 8 gig card and a 4 gig card in about 6 minutes. Life is good. I eject and remove the second card and check my e-mail. A few minutes later I look up and the card icon is gone?! I insert a P2 card and it doesn't mount.... I remove the Duel and reboot, insert it 3 seperate times and no go... reinstall Duel adapter and repair permissions and no go...

Yes I properly ejected all mounted P2 cards, I ejected one using P2 Genie and the other using finder after I had closed P2 Genie.

This has to be THE most frustrating $120 I've spent since switching to my Mac.......

AGREED!!!! And as it is an integral part of my data management I'm afraid to use it until it works perfectly. Anyone had any success with this driver?

It's really unusual that there seems to be NO COMMENT THREAD as to what gets it to work, and to work reliably.

I think it might be related to the fact that the adapter needs a driver and the computer needs a driver to mount p2 cards.

Sorta of a double whammy

David, I wouldn't have any problem agreeing with you... EXCEPT, this adapter was not designed to be a P2 adapter, it is an adapter to use PCMCIA cards through express card slots. If I could get the Duel Adapter to work with other PCMCIA cards consistently but was having trouble with P2 cards that might be one thing. But when it won't even consistently show up in the System Profiler that's a whole different ball game. That's before a P2 card even comes into the mix. This was definitely released before it was ready.

This just in from the Duel tech support desk:

G,
We apologize about the inconvenience. The beta 10.4.9 driver is not a guarantee that it will work properly. If you have any further questions or problems please feel free to contact us at any time.

Thank you for contacting the DuelAdapter email support.

Hmmm... It seems like they are no help at all.

well.... absurd as it is, i just installed the driver, and everything seems to be working (MBP 2.33, 2gig ram)... except for the damn final cut pro crap... still getting dropouts when importing through it. I don't have P2 Log installed on this cpu, so I can't test it through there... anyway, just thought I'd give ya'll some hopeful feedback.

edit: i did intstall the 4.8 driver that was posted by a member a while ago. And didn't try to untinstall or anything... just followed the normal install process after downloading...

I still don't trust the damn thing... and with the FCP dropout problem still in full effect, I'm going to use my firestore for the forseeable future. I have had much better luck with that in native QT mode than I have with these damn p2 cards i paid a months salary for...

later
