BROKEN the FEATURE FILM - TEST SCENE w/MOVIE STARS

Hey Guys,

Now don't get excited but we shot a few scenes last summer for the feature film version of BROKEN. This scene stars the lovely Paula Garces (Harold and Kumar, The Shield) and Diego Serrano (24, Arli$$). It was shot on the DVX 100a 24p in a day, with a crew made up of mostly students, except for all the department heads.

Goto: http://www.alexferrari.com/work.html and click on "Soulless" (the new name for the BROKEN feature film. Check it out and let me know what you think.

As for updates on the feature version:

We were approached by a ton of hollywood studios and producers but the script Jorge and I wrote was a bit ambitious ($35-$50 million to do it right). The studios weren't willing to give a "first time" director a shot on such a big budget (totally understandable). That's why I wrote my next project "Red Princess Blues" for a $1-$2 million budget in mind, much more doable. As for BROKEN aka SOULLESS, only time will tell if we will ever get to make it.:crybaby:

Anyway gotta move forward. Let me know what you think.

alex and team the scene looked good, don't wait to get all that money in order to do the broken feature, do it the old indie way and you will suceed.

suerte!
G.

Some great direction here guys. I'm already drawn to the characters. That's some good direction.

Don't take this the wrong way but the first minute was better than the entire BROKEN short.

Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done. I didn't care for the editing but the rest of it was sharp.

How many of those commercials on your site are spec?

Thank man! Glad you like my editing too :crybaby: Only two are specs.

More on the editing: it feels like there were a lot of unmotivated cuts, especially towards the beginning. We go from a high angle to a low angle for no particular reason I can think of. And the closeups on the keys and the answering machine... sure, the keys are later a little important, but you're really pushing it down our throats here. Then, later, in the shower, you've got a cut which makes it appear as if we've jumped the line when in fact we haven't. Again, it feels unmotivated. Those are a few things that come to mind.

Just my comments. I stopped editing myself because I got sick of doing it. But I still notice all the little gotchas all the time. I guess most people probably wouldn't notice.

Thanks for the comments. I think the cuts were motivated and help move the scene forward. I still am editing and have been for over 12 years. But everyone is entitled to there opinon. Art is in the eye of the beholder, what works for one doesn't work for the other. That is what is so great about filmmaking :dankk2:

BTW, your flix looks very cool, good luck man!!!

so let me get this correct: as of now, there is NO BROKEN feature? Only that Soulless scene right?

We'll see if in the future someone would give us the needed $$$ to do it right. :crybaby:
Until then I have a new feature I am woking on called "Red Princess Blues." More on that later...
