HVX200 Film Transfer, Any News?

I heard that Michael Pappas was doing film out tests with the HVX200 (and other HD cameras). Has he reported his findings yet?

Has anyone else reported any video to film transfer tests using the HVX200? I'm just curious to know how the HVX200 footage held up.

NOTE:
I just saw WHY WE FIGHT. It's a great documentary. I highly recommend it. What does that have to do with this post? Well, the film has a ton of video in it. Lots of the video was shot 4x3 SD (news clips, show clips, etc...). The highest quality news clips looked great. I imagine the filmmaker found decent digibeta copies of those clips. I would also guess that if 4x3 SD footage transferred to film looks that good, a film transfer from the HVX200 would look even better. Am I right?

Yeah, i heard repots of this a few weeks back. Some footage was posted of the 35mm print shot on someones digital still camera. They said the distraction factor is officialy gone. And though it was hard to tell from the footage posted it looked like it held up really well.

We did a brief filmout (2:30) last week. I will see the results tomorrow when we start our launch of the HVX. I will post the comments that we receive, the lab has said that the filmout looks great - and believe me they will know.

The 35mm film our we did back in December was re-transfered in early February from a new D5 master. The print incorporated a new LUT, and was timed wonderfully.

It looked very, very good.. For comparison, I would say that the first transfer was... good. This new 35mm transfer print was even better. There was no camera noise distraction, even in the low-light (very near no-light) footage!

I'm not sure when there will be a public event/screening. It will undoubtedly be announced in the major forums when details have been finalized.

I.

I just saw this film yesterday and it was a great thought provoking doc. Alot of the footage was even very low resolution web stuff. It just goes to show that you can get away with alot if the content is compelling. I'm not saying that low MPEG2 video can hold up a whole film, but placed in the right places at the right times, low rez can work. I don't know if this film would work on huge cinemascope screens, but where I saw it in Berkeley on a 20ft wide screen, it looked great. Interviews had nice shallow depth of field, not sure if they were 2/3" SD or film. HVX footage would fool most movie go'ers on smaller screens into assuming it was film. But the format should fit the content.

Well, he said it was good, but, then again,
he just bought the Canon XL-H1

So Michael went the the XLH1. That's very interesting. He spent a long time testing, so I would love to know why he went with the Canon vs the Sony vs the JVC vs the Panasonic. It would be interesting to hear what he thought the pros and cons of each camera was (subjective and scientific). I shot some stuff today with the HVX and will give my report very soon.

Please do !
I need to try the HVX again...and the Canon for that matter.
I gotta say - I love the images from the Canon...

Pappas said, finally, it was between the Canon and the JVC

Angels.. He is the Canon's man around here.. He was always there.. And a good performer, as well.. And now he's banned also..

Panasonic 1 Canon 2

That PappasArts statement in his website is a kind of joke. The Canon fear about HVX200 product is so high that he puts JVC in second and these months he had been referring 1% for JVC vs 48% for HVX200 (the other 51% it was for Canon of course). And now, he reminds JVC.

But who can say that he did a bad deal? Anyone out there it will refuse a free HD cam? Or some other similar vendor fee?

Do you hear me Canon/Panasonic/JVC/Sony guys?

$6,000 or $10,000 is a lot of money.. So, I and about 10,000 members, we are available to give our services to post here and in the other major web sites, first as your potential customers and after as your customers, for sure. Mainly, if you will send your product to test it.

How many post months do you need? Or do you want to pay? Come on.. Acting but on screen! And after a casting. A casting couch, why not?
