16GB cards from Spec Comm

I ordered a couple of 16 GBers a while back and recently got an update from jasmine over at Spec Comm....

"Just wanted to give you a quick update. The 16GB cards are 875.00, which
includes ground shipping. Currently we're expecting them in around the end
of May."

No date for sure, but a pretty good ballpark.
 
BAD NEWS: I asked B&H about the 16gig cards, because I had preordered one about a week ago and am set to move to a new apartment June 1st. They said "We just got word from Panasonic, they will START shipping these cards sometime in June. "

Ah well. I'll just have to wait... :(

Maybe they are talking about the 2nd shipment? (there probalby is a bunch of people before you)

Maybe Jan could enlighten us....
 
The report I received this morning is that most of the new 16 Gb cards are staying in Japan.

I was among the first three to order the cards, and my supplier says he can confirm a previous confirmed ship date of May 16th and that probably all cards are pushed atleast to June.

It would be nice if Jan could give us an update with specifics.

And what does this do to the promised 32 Gb cards?

this is one of those times i wish we were more informed, my order was placed 24th through bh and i got now clue of where im standin, and callin seems like they know as much as i do...
 
Well I just got my cam and only have tapes to record on....I've got the 16GB cards on order so the sooner they get here....the better! I was hoping for May and with footage to shoot before the end of May was hoping the cards could get here yesterday :D
 
I hope the ones that were slated for end of May, all do come over here. I myself and probalby a lot others, are waiting for the cards so we can buy the camera. I don't plan on shooting much or any SD, so the cards are essential to using the camera for most. I don't wanna have to pay $800 (going rate on ebay) for a 8gb P2 card just to use temporarily.

Well whoever said that the first shipment is stayiing in Japan is a bit out of the loop. The first batch of 16GB cards will ship with the HPX500 and the remainder will go to satisfy backorders. I am not at liberty to say how many that is. And this does nothing to the 32GB cards.

I did get to play with a 16 and a 32 yesterday at the office. I am still feeling a little giddy.

It would be more than lovely if my three pre-ordered 16s showed up no later than June 21 at Pro Media. I've got to go to the Galapagos Islands for two
weeks ON JULY 1ST !! Would love to shoot HD for the first time. We skipped the 8GB cards and waited for the 16GB. Jan, if you were me, would you feel at all
confident that I'd have my cards before I leave?

Just reported what I was told, which came from the dealer's Panasonic rep.

In any case, by the "remainder will file back orders" are you referring to USA dealers?

You comment isn't clear on that.
 
Any updates? I'm kinda waiting for the cards to come out to purchase the camera. It would be an inconvenience if the end of May date got pushed back even further.

The HPX500s will be allocated out of the first shipment of 16 GB cards for the US and then the rest will be taking care of in-house back orders. Not all back orders will be filled.

For those who do not currently have a p2 card and are holding out for the release of the 16's, I just wanted to post my fortunate experience.

I contacted a dealer with regards to availability of the 16's and informed them that I needed to buy a card (8 or 16). I preferred the 16 obviously because you get more for your money, but I needed to have something now. Rather than having to buy another 8, this dealer offered to send me an 8gb card from their rental pool (free of charge) until the 16gb is released. I ordered two 16's. They sent me two 8's. I just send them back when the 16's become available, and my 16's will be on its way.

Some of the previous posters on this thread might benefit from a transaction like this. I was unaware that any dealer would do this, but those in need might try mentioning this to their preferred dealer.

Then again, hopefully they'll release soon and we'll all have our 16's. :)

Then when is the next shipment past May expected that will fill those back orders in the USA?

And does Panasonic prefer some dealers over others?
